Reaper V6 Default Theme - alpha 1.2
Please find attached the latest theme and script versions. Overwrite the old version to use.
Installation
This all makes use of functionality that is only currently present in development branches of the program, which are not included in RC or final releases. Therefore, you must be using a DEV version of REAPER, version v5.984+dev1104 or later, to test this.
Use 'Options > Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder' to open your resources folder. Place the theme (the .ReaperThemeZip file) in the 'ColorThemes' folder.
Unzip the contents of script.zip into your 'Scripts' folder. Go to 'Actions > Show action list'. In the bottom right, click the ReaScript Load button. Select 'Default_6.0 theme adjuster.lua' and click Open.
Clearing save files
On installation and/or if weirdness occurs, please go to REAPER resource path and delete 'reaper-themeconfig.ini' ...that will definitely be broken, because I've renumbered some parameters. It will be rebuilt when you first run the latest script.
You might also want to edit reaper-extstate.ini and delete the [Default_6.0 theme adjuster] section.
Changes
- HiDPI for the script itself. Only does 100% or 200%, hopefully that's okay.
- Apply layouts from the script has returned. It won't be very useful yet if you're not at 100% screen scaling, please stand by for more on that.
- most of the 150% and 200% custom toolbar icons done.
- Fixes from 1.13 feedback, thanks everyone!
Please test and give feedback!
This is the final design intent of the theme, which is not going to change. I'm sorry if you don't personally like it; please understand that sometimes a decision just has to be made, now it just needs to be implemented as well as possible and that can't happen without your testing, which is always much appreciated.
Thanks!

I love all the changes I see!
Two comments:
1) Automation tracks don't indent. It makes it very difficult to see the folder structure in some cases.
2) Only on MacOS: Some of the text in the transport is still too small for me (I'm only 27 and have good eyesight), where it seems there would be space to increase the font size.
3) The outside of the arm button isn't very "clean" at 100%. It looks like it's pixelated where it shouldn't be (see attached picture)
4) The small sections of the grid visible in the ruler are too long and overlap on the text in some cases. Also see attached picture.

Btw, if I here (Win7, Firefox) click on a ReaperThemeZip attached in this post, Firefox asks "Open With?" and I choose Reaper, the theme is automatically opened in Reaper and copied into proper place on the disk, no need to fiddle with local copy-pasting into \ColorThemes folder.

Unfortunately the track zoom issue is still there (Windows 10).
Apparently, when using "zoom out vertical", Reaper is triggering some additional zoom states which aren't reflected visually, though.
Let me show you in this GIF:
Repro:
1. zoom to the smallest track height and THEN trigger "zoom out vertically" again
2. now do the opposite and use "zoom in vertically"
= you have to execute the action 3 times in order to see a change
Items losing left border when muting them:

Element Labels Mixer weirdness
Element Labels in the Mixer script option:
There is some weirdness- if I choose all four options (sel/unsel/recarm/nonrecar) to show the labels the labels on mixer tracks disappear everytime record-arm a track
Its happening with mixerlayout A chosen.
Thanks

Yeah, good point. Please see the new version, where I've made it clearer that the left help is the 'where/when does this save?' help, and the right text is the 'what does this do' help.
|
I guess it's a bit better, but still too flashy and distracting. Also hover area for these is not consistent, sometimes they are shown when the mouse is over a button, sometimes not. Also, they are too wordy.
Regarding phrasing of other tooltips, you use different verb forms for different tooltips - e.g. "applies" and elsewhere "choose". The best would probably be to keep them all at "you do a thing" (="apply").
And they all seems too wordy to me and I have sometimes problems to understand what does they try to explain.

Script error: Default_6.0 theme adjuster.lua:1133: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value (field 'drawH').
I run the script, got the error. Then I deleted all stuff in .ini files, run the script, ok. Then run the script the second time, got the error.
Edit: The problem lies in reaper-extstate.ini

These dimmed labels ("default", "selected") serve no purpose.
We already know that the layout with the "default" text dimmed is not the default one because another one has the "default" lit. I'd say to not show dimmed "default" labels.
With the "selected" text and no tracks selected like in the pic, its confusing. Also, why do we actually need to know that a layout is set to any selected track?
The area over "defualt" and "selected" does trigger a hover state of the layout select button, but clicking does nothing. Clicking on this should behave the same as clicking on the layout select button.
---------------------------------------
Hover bug, steps:
- select layout A
(loop
- move mouse over "B DEFAULT SELECTED"
- move mouse over "C DEFAULT SELECTED"
}
BUG - strange behavious.
- either it beahves ok
- or the "C" is not highlighted
- or both "B" and "C" are highlighted

Script error
I'm attempting to run test in a portable install
using reaper5984+dev1104_x64-install.exe.
I'm getting this error screen.
I've attempted to fix this by completely erasing and reinstalling this
version of reaper.
Am I correct in thinking that this is a portable install issue?

hmm, it's the same here, with new lua 15:59h
If ’Allow retina drawing’ is active inside prefs > system tweaks, I’m still unable to use the TA window. It flickers and doesn’t keep its size and position.
If Retina is un-checked, then it's fine, and working so far.
Also tried cleaning the reaper-extstate ini, but no luck.

Confirmed (I'm using Reaper for Linux). The issue you describe has existed for me as well, for every version of this theme so far (that I recall). I thought it might only be on my system so I didn't mention it.

Some feedback..
Very hard to see what track is selected in TCP (see screenshot).
https://i.imgur.com/udHi89b.jpg
Transport numbers are still not aligned to the buttons.
https://i.imgur.com/EitNpv1.png
Track title text is not centered in TCP.
Hard to see range of volume on TCP when set to fader, (black color on very dark background, not ideal). Less of a problem with upper range since the fader moves all the way to the right, but because of no contrast it is hard to have any visual feedback about the current level relative to 0.

Glad to help.
White Tie: I notice that it seems impossible to have MCP element labels visible at all times. There seems to be some faulty logic in the new version of the script that prevents this. I'm able to get MCP elements to remain visible when tracks are selected or are not selected only if I check "if track not armed"...but then if I arm the track the MCP element labels disappear even if I also check "if track armed". I thought I was going crazy or missed something, but I can't find any combination that works.

Version 6 theme has an excellent tool for coloring tracks within one specific, um, "mood", but, like the Reaper engine, it can still produce unusual colors that will stand out from the general design.

Am I really the only one having this drawing issue with the theme adjuster?
Alpha 1.1 works fine using same UI settings.
– again, when retina is unchecked v1.2 works as expected, but low-res of course..
I notice there’s some @2x goodies in there!

This is system dependent; not all users have .ReaperThemeZip assigned.

Choose and apply mean different things, and are correctly used in their contexts. However, I take your point and will take a longer look at these; most of them are just the first thing I wrote.

The dimmed labels do serve a purpose. A condition of "I could have a state, but I don't" is useful information.
You can stop reporting mouseover problems for now, the code for them was a beginner (me) over stretching himself and the fix would be a bit of a nightmare. I've made the executive decision to live with them until I'm less busy. Thanks and sorry.

No, literally not possible. However, I've done my best by making it a trivially easy rtconfig mod, best I can do.

Ah yes, I need to re-enable my OSX text baseline fix. Thanks for reminding me!
It is possible to tell that track 4 is selected. I have given the ability to choose any colour in response to user requests, that does bring with it the ability to choose inappropriate colours if you want really clear indication. So the question becomes whether I limit the included palette colours to exclude such arguably inappropriate colours, and I think that yes, I probably should. Anyone else have a view on this?
Thanks everyone!

That's would be cool! Colored items and tracks are also part of the design to some extent. Keeping colors under control - is a good step.

I agree some custom colors could benefit from minor adjustments.
I have attached a proposal (for your evaluation)

MCP element visibility logic, and vertical zooming work well for me now, thanks!
I would weigh in about colors, but I tend to work from a custom palette anyway. My tastes for track colours/saturation are almost oddly specific.

Really like the scalable transport now. Though in 200% and when in HH.MM.SS.SS mode the boxes for the selection numbers are too small, the last digits get cut off a little.
The blue line indent when folder dragging still doesnt work.
I still think there are are too little contrast in mailnly the TCP and MCP "color parts". The soft of light gray back ground doesnt match well with the white text especially when its a bright surrounding color.
More contrast please! (IMHO I must in a default theme for accesibilty)

Could I have a screenshot of your selection numbers please?
Are you sure you're using an up to date DEV version of Reaper? Anyone else seeing this problem? Its all good here.
I'm happy with where the contrast is now. FWIW Reaper's strategy for accessibility is specifically the availability of other themes, though even saying that I believe we're in pretty good shape with this theme.

@White Tie:
No worries, won't mention that here with the item edges
Is there a way to make the track names always white?
This is just really hard to read, because the eye constantly needs to
adjust to the different brightness levels of the text:

Inside TA there’s still a weird overlay from mouse-over on cells:

I agree, it would be convenient to have the option of track titles in monochrome; white, light gray, or perhaps 'Cockos light gray-green'.
– On next theme-pack, remember to include this little fellow PNG that is now missing:

In MacOSX High Sierra it doesn't displays volume levels.
How to enable Volume db scale (ruler) in mixer panel for all tracks? (at the moment it displays it only for Master Bas)

Unpack the contents from the script.zip into your Scripts folder. Then in the Actions window, Load the ReaScript Default_6.0 theme adjuster.lua. Run this theme adjuster and with it you can change the track name size, along with many other things.
