Hello fellow Reapers!
Thinking it is time to show a little preview of what is cooking here;
' CONCEPT SIX' (working title) is slowly becoming a full theme for latest Reaper 6. At this time, the theme is still in an experimental state as I try various solutions, but do so while actually working with a functional implementation. Nearly 200 elements have already been completed, and still there are many more things to do, including an even further expanded and dedicated Theme Adjuster tool.
Also there’s a few things I assume can be done in a more convenient way using the config-script, but since I’m very (very) far from being an expert of Walter coding, it could require some time to find out if things are possible or not))
What is perhaps new about this approach is that all graphic elements are created as vector objects, which opens the possibility of scaling all graphics in a 'pixel perfect' environment. I've done some tests adapting everything to various Reaper resolutions and it works really well, including stretch marks and so on.
Another wonderful feature is the ability to make global changes, which means that certain aspects of the full theme and all its elements can be adjusted or completely changed in a rather simple way, but still with the help of a complex operation of course.
If time permits, and things go well, I hope to be able to finish the theme and make it available sometime later this year :-o -The project is solely driven by my idea of a strong conceptual look for Reaper, a theme with some tweaks that I personally find both helpful and useful and would like to try and realize. Importantly, the project must be fun and give way to creativity - as well as other priorities in life!
I will probably post more pictures and ideas here.
Any comments, feedback or questions are very welcome.
Cheers!
/f

This part is working? How is that possible? I didn't think Reaper supported any vector formats for GUI elements. It would be much easier to just feed Reaper some .svg's, tell it what size to draw them via Walter, and have everything just happen without multiple copies of images or rescaling errors.
Looks interesting. Would love to hear more.

Hi! no-no Reaper doesn't scale vector graphics (but would be really cool if!), maybe I wasn't clear, it's just me doing things in vector-art (eg. illustrator) in contrary to working with rasterized images.

Ah gotcha! I was a little confused based on the way it was worded. I've been in Affinity Designer the last few days making a set of custom icons for the 6 theme the same way.
My two big Reaper GUI wishes at this point are 1) svg support as an option for graphic elements, and 2) themeable dialog boxes. For a second I thought you figured out some kind of workaround for #1.

Ah ok, unfortunately I haven't discovered anything new about those two things. If Reaper gets the ability of SVG I'll be ready
Btw. I'm also doing knob stacks in the same document, really convenient if there's need for at global color change, different transparency or perhaps a font adjustment.

I really like the 2d simplicity but not too much colors than disturb the concentration.
Colors are awesome for marketing but when you sit down for hours in front of one daw you really need one relax view with smooth tones and only contrast colors for important events to prevent the visual fatige...
But it´s only my taste.
Anyways if you need beta testers I´m here...

Hi, that’s the ambition yes, but, > big disclaimer here < –it really depends if the whole scaling thing is working out as I expect it to. Some of the scaled placeholders have arbitrary sizes which can force a lot of manual editing. I'll try to get a better idea of the number and have a more clear answer to the question.

– exactly, that's the idea for the solo/mute section. It's really tricky to get the correct tints working for that backlit look. I'm not sure it's spot-on yet, still working on the buttons when engaged.

Looking great so far. I am not a fan of big bulky buttons and large faders so this looks much smoother so far.

Thankz! I think on-screen buttons are generally fake looking (including my own idea here for Concept Six). But the buttons often tell a little story and give a sense of something in real life, that we can relate to and maybe get some inspiration from))
My idea for the fader thumbs is to have some kind of lightweight feeling, think Reaper(!), and with a clear indicator that will work just as well on different backgrounds. Besides that, I'm perfectly fine with ultra minimalistic buttons, eg. the triangles in Ableton.

Pre-release version, please?
I'd consider most of the themes out there unfinished, but there's a big difference between unfinished and unusable.... you might find the responses from users inspiring. And even if you give up entirely, others might be able to pick up where you left off.
Please put it out there before you get tired of working on it! It's so lovely!

Yes, if I use the transport, I also have it set to centered. And, of course there is a practical need for the transport bar, especially to adjust global play rate and for validating external time code.
I always have the Big Clock permanently placed in the upper corner of Reaper, and the info bar (under track controls) can also be set to show selection and more. However, to manage the play head, it is much more efficient to use the keyboard or for that matter an external device.
On another note, recently I re-discovered my old turntable (it has been stored away for 15 years or so), not an expensive device, but look, real backlit buttons with real text, I like that!

Thanks, yes definitely SONY after the period of using brushed steel!
– perhaps I got carried away a little with those buttons. I don’t want the interface to look particular old school’ish. On the other hand, if only the faders and control buttons have a little artistic feel, it might add a touch of soul and personality to the UI. I’ll consider this further.
Still need to do the entire MiDi section, Media Explorer and few other things. After that an extensive cross platform adjustment, and pre test.

thanks man, I might adjust it a bit though! The V6 Theme Adjuster allow for resizing the transport if the scaled graphics are present. I might do that for the transport before other parts.
Only big problem as I see it, is that the script also scales the regular text, it becomes hardly readable and of no real practical use, except the buttons of course. There might be a way to change that in the script, I dunno.
Already made simple and narrow dividers for both track and mixer, plain background colored, no title feature etc.

This might be off the topic but..
I'm always wondering that is it possible to assign an action or script on a button by themeing ...?
or is it possible to create a extra button on like TPC panel tat we can assign action to it?

Good question, it would also be in my interest if possible with v6. Maybe better to raise this question on the big forum.

Just left as much as I was able as a donation. Grabbed the theme from your site.
Dayyyyyuuummm it looks killer. I have to play with it for a bit to give it a full assessment.
I cant wait to see what you'll be adding....
i was wondering though if I recieved an old .zip
inside CONCEPT-SIX-BASIC / 6_Theme_rev_1.1
is CONCEPT-SIX-BASIC.ReaperThemeZip
Is this the updated 1.1 or is it a previous BASIC version?
Just Curious...
Not complaining, just making sure I'm doing this correctly...
Peace!
EDIT: Dang.... answered my own question because "somebody" thought to put the version number displayed in the lower right corner of the Master...
2nd Ed: I like the thumbs lit up when I'm adjusting the Stock plugs - finally a bit of color there....

Thank you very much! I put a lot of effort into adding these things
And good you found the release number, also you can check the version number of the present custom Theme Adjuster. Both installations are important for the theme functionality.
Additional information can be found in the full documentation and should contribute to an overall good experience. Apart from following this forum thread intensively, remember it is possible to sign up for updates on the donation page to receive small email notifications. Not all revisions will be announced and will depend on what or how much has been changed.

Hello!
If you mean the VU meter bars, you may try switch off the interlaced setting in the Theme Tweaker, this will result in stronger appearance. If you mean the blue VU readout value, then it is not so easy to change, I'm afraid.
In track controls, the solo/mute buttons are not extremely dominant and for different reasons, however in the mixer they have an extra outline for little more visibility. This is all by design and not something I will change for this theme variant.
* Remember, if you tweak the theme, and save it as a “_Tweaked” theme, you also need to duplicate the “CONCEPT-SIX-BASIC_theme_adjuster.lua” and rename the dup with the same name; “CONCEPT-SIX-BASIC_Tweaked_theme_adjuster.lua”. Otherwise it will no longer be recognized by default, or recall settings correctly. Edit: This is no longer relevant. New Theme Adjuster and Reaper themecheck function (v6.11) automatically pairs with the parent ReaperTheme.

It should work fine for most screen sizes, but I'm still not quite sure about 1440px proportions, though some use C-SIX with it. I have seen examples of the UI being stretched slightly and showing unintentional interpolation.. If you use 4k+ be ready for a real treat!

For some reason I cant get the fonts to install. Either by select & drag or copy & paste. Just in case it`s my memory, (been a while since I shuffled fonts) where do reaper fonts go & how is the best way to install them?

Hi , great work, never used a theme since i found this one. I use reaper for 10 years.
Really great use of colors and makes reaper way different and practical, i enjoyed a lot.
Closing folders in the Matrix is a bit difficult, could you please have a look at it ?
Thanks.

Hi Pepe, thank you for expressing your personal experience using C-SIX, and also for bringing the matrix view to my attention!
You refer to box backgrounds and unfolding icons inside routing under the Wiring matrix, yes?
In that case, you are absolutely right, and I will include a correction in the next update (soon):
before, and after color adjustments:
/f

Its not in the Wiring, but glad you found another one, eheh.
It´s in the routing matrix.
You´re theme has 3 lines, it behaves different from the standard arrow which i do prefer .
Thanks.
