Default Basic split refresher

How does one do basic split again? I'm newbie and nothing comes intuitive for me with Reaper.

S, then marks beginning of tracks you want to cut out. .. then scroll to find where you want to end mark another S?

Also confused: light grey or dark grey is selected? And how lock two audio trCKS so both are aligned? Thanks.

Well as another newbie to Reaper .....

I understand what you are trying to achieve and split helps you do it but split does what it says on the tin in it's fundamental use.

Consider a track, split ( key S) devides the track into two sections before and after the cursor -the split position. Current selection is light grey (I think it is the section after the cursor by default). That section can then be deleted.

If you want to delete a section mid track, yes you need to split at the start of the area for deletion and split at the end of the area to create that mid track section. Select it (light grey again) and then that section is subject to your actions such as delete.

It would be usefull to just highlight a section without 'double' splitting.....
......I bet someone will be along to tell us how or point us to a Kenny video!!

My terminology is probably not Reaperspeak but I am learning that too...very slowly!

Ah! Blind misleading the blind eh?

Referring back to quick start guide....

Split item (!) is the correct terminology!
Splits item, selects that after edit cursor, keyboard key S is shortcut to do the action.
Correct as you wrote.
Light grey is selection.

Yes you need to do two item splits to create 3 items from one to take actions on the middle one such as taming out a 'section' of a track i.e. take out the middle item.

There are other things you can do to that selected item other than just delete it, see quick start guide 'Item editing'

.......probably even more jumbled or I have misunderstood what you are needing clarified!

The writing in incompressible for the most part; but I did get that part about the selected track is light grey.

Why would a software company would put both tracks the
the same is crazy no?

And then for selecting both tracks?

Make time selection and select item.
Press Shift S to split at beginning and end of time selection.

I am at a loss to express my response better @Kevs!

Somebody will do a better job soon, I hope for you.

This will work if both items are adjacent, but if they aren't it will select not only these items but also any in between them.

I'd recommend Ctrl click in this case rather than Shift click.
