I have a focusrite 18i8 and equator D5 speakers.
When I use the AISO (Focurite) there is a high pitch sound in the speakers.
I discovered that the sensivity knob on the speakers where set to max (-10), so I turn it to min (> +4dBu) and the high pitched sound almost disappeared, but the volume becomes quite low.
The 18i8 spec says max +16dBu.
It's only on the speakers, not in the records, so it's not that big issue.
Is it a bad for the speakers to have -10?
Any have an explanation for how this works?
Would a TRS to XLR cable do any good? the TRS are electronicly balanced on the 18i8.

I would not put the monitor trim at full. For 1 reason you cannot assume that the levels will be exactly the same between the two speakers with the same setting.

Do a calibration like in this video.

* speakers turned all the way down, then turn off.
* interface volume max
* -20dB Pink noise signal generated by reaper
* turn up one speaker to hit 80 dBSPL in an SPL meter (or whatever level you like)
* repeat for second speaker.
* Turn vol knob down to normal
at this point I usually trim the main out in the interface software mixer by 6dB.

The D5s as powered speakers don't care so long as they aren't being fed too hot from the sound card and even if that were the case, they shouldn't be making a high pitch sound assuming I understand the interpretation - It's just a bi-amp minus the need for a preamp with digital processing internally. My D5s are always full up, they have to be in order to proportionally match my other two sets of monitors (Adam/Mackie) to my satisfaction.

I'm more concerned about why they have the high pitch sound, mine don't do that. Any chance you can describe or demonstrate it?

Are you using balanced or unbalanced cabling?
