Default Configuring output sends for recording feedback

I'd like to be able to run a recording session with each player having their own headphones. Each pair of headphones should have its own gain and selection of tracks and possibly include their own mic while recording. I'm looking at buying an Alesis iO4 particularly because it has some outputs that should in theory allow this in software.

Could anyone please give me a confirmation that this will work before I commit to that model...

Based on my fiddling around it *looks* like I could set the "Master" mixer to "4 tracks", create several Audio Hardware sends in the I/O window, and use the faders there to set the output levels. Then I would use the Routing view to choose which tracks should be sent to which outputs. Then presumably Record Monitoring would apply to those sends.

Is that right? Is there a better way?

Cheers!
