Default assigning drum pads to addictive drums

I want to use an akai mpk mini with reaper - do I assign the drum pads with the akai supplied software or is there a better way to do it within reaper

1) configure your controller
2) configure input device in AD2
3) use midi mapper in reaper

Default mpk editor

If anybody who has an akai mpk is interested :
It works, but the gui is crap - once you get the hang of it is quick.
Help is available on youtube
Only 4 save files though.

I can't say whether this is the best method, but did you see the MIDI map section of AD2's settings (if using 2)? It's in the '?' button. It lets you set your pads to the sounds you want, and also lets you set velocity curves for each sound. I'm pretty sure that AD2's mapping applies to all instances of the plugin that you make. I'm also using an Akai Mini Mk2, and it was easy to use that to assign things.

I use the Akai editor just to set the notes of different programs apart. So I have a common set of notes on bank A that I use for a kick/snare/cymbal arrangement, and bank A of programs 1 and 2 use the same notes, but bank B has a different set of notes per program. They are all notes used for bass on my synth, not based around drum sounds. By doing it this way, I can have the notes I need on the synth.
