Default Should sample rates match?

I've got a Focusrite 2i2 and under device in Reaper Preferences it says sample rate 48000.

When I go to Render the sample rate is 44100?

I cant remember whether the 48000 figure was put in by me or not (my brain is struggling to cope!)

Do they need to match?

*apologies if this is a stupid question...

No question is stupid.
I have a 2i2 and I run everything at 48K.
If you go to project settings, (ALT+ENTER if on a PC), tick Project Sample rate and then enter 48000 if you have not already, then save as default project settings.

Then when you render it will (or should) be set to 48K.

You should pick a sample rate and stick to it. If you have limited hard drive space, go with 44.1kHz. I also use 48kHz for everything. Either one is fine, just don't mix them in the same project.

You can use any sample rate for rendering;it is an in-the-computer process that has nothing to do with your interface settings. But if you'd like to listen to it, you might choose one your interface supports...

Where do you adjust the sample rate in Reaper?
On a Mac, preferably.
Thanks

You can set it in Project Settings, and in Preferences/Device. Occasionally it must be set in the device software if this doesn't seem to do anything.

Where do I find 'Project Settings?' The 'Preferences/Device' is showing 48k (where it should be) but can't seem to find where 'Project Settings ' is.

Thanks for your help!

Think I found it.
Is this correct?
Also, if I adjust it here in one project will that stay for future projects?
Thanks

Probably if you click the button that says 'save as default project settings.' If not, you can save the project as a project template and have it load when you launch Reaper. That's set up in Reaper preferences/project.
