What's Your Favorite Thing about Reaper Right Now?
Let's bask in the light of some of Reapers shiniest new (or newly discovered) features for a moment...(AKA go cry somewhere else)
For me it's Sai'ke's new Buzz-inspired Machine View:
Not only because I used to work in Buzz (which this is based on), but mostly because Sai'ke is such a cool dude and (nearly instantly) took almost all of my suggestions on how to make it the ultimate routing tool for Reaper! It's a dream come true for me. It's still in progress, so there a few kinks, but already very useful!
It's a second mixer, a full track/selector overview, a visual routing tool (combined with mpl's WiredChain you can also do modular fx routing), and shows you at a glance, all the audio happening in your project! It's a magical beast and fills me with joy. Thanks Sai'ke!

Thanks for posting this - this is a very useful tool and now part of my toolbars.
Although there are many favorite things about Reaper, two for me are Heda's Track Inspector (and Master Track Inspector), as well as the Track Template scripts.
Once the effort is put in to setting up the Track Template script, inserting VST templates is so much quicker and much more visually appealing.
Although Reaper runs fine without these scripts, these tools make certain procedures much more efficient.

The ability to script (nearly) anything you want for it in lua.
Also jsfx are great. They lower the bar to plugin development by a lot. It's so helpful for algorithm design/testing when you can rapidly iterate and their integration in REAPER is fab.
P.S. thanks for the shoutout

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds an awful lot like complaining...in which case it belongs anywhere other than here. Thanks.

Read the OP and then go make your own thread if you wanna bitch (or go do it on one of the countless threads made specifically for it). I'm sick of all the whining so I made this thread for Reaper praise. Unless you got some, GTFO.

I work on a plethora of project types. What I like about Reaper is the ability to customize
what ever project I'm on, and make it quicker, take the mundane out of it, and make things less
error prone.
There simply is no other DAW in the world that can do what Reaper can do.

Yep. I think that's what we all love about the old coot. Most tools you have to learn how to use. This is the only one you can adapt to however you want to work and it's glorious! I've done my fair share of bitching, but I think I'm all past that now...I've reached DAW Nirvana!

Actually Reaper does have a learning curve, and it can be hard to relate to that once you get past that. The most
important thing is to learn how to use the actions and how you can build those actions to do quantum steps. Add to
that the scripting, and there's no stopping you.
I'm not sure if anyone knows what I'm doing in this video, but I'm making seamless loops in an orchestra library I
was involved in. It took a little while to develop the custom actions to do all this but if you think of all the
samples this was used on, the time was nothing.

The vast unbounded plains of the Action List.
The keys to the kingdom, everything is in it.

I honestly couldn't follow that video when I was attempting to do the same. I remember I watched it a bunch and just got more and more confused. I think maybe it wasn't the same video because there was just text onscreen to explain it. I gave up and just stopped using time fx when making seamless loops. It's lame there's not just an option for this when we render.

I could do a laundry list of stuff I like about reaper, but most of it you could find in other DAWS in one form or an other... The one thing I like the most is its stability.
I got reminded of that last month when I was recording a live show on an extremely shoddy laptop that froze all the time. I discovered later that the power supply was on its last legs, and it delivered jolts of current to the CPU which of course made it very unhappy. It's in the trash now.
Anyhow, it decided it was time to freeze right in the middle of our set. Reaper recorded our whole set even AFTER the cpu froze.
The project was not saved, but the .wavs were on the hard drive. I couldn't believe it.
This is why I love reaper. It's a tough bastard.

Hi fox, I think the video below is the one you're talking about. The important thing to understand is that
by doing it this way you are creating the perfect loop points, because they are exactly the same points in the
wave form.
The 3rd track in the video where the item is reversed is simply to add content between the loop points. It
doesn't have to be reversed but it can improve the timbre relationship if it is. I've made countless of loops
this way. I find it faster and much easier then the regular way of creating loops and the most important thing
is that the loops are perfectly seamless.
This works with solo instruments too, however you do have to time align the phase.
This is the video.
