Fix for losing Kontakt after Reaper crash
I was experimenting with the Vielklang Instant Harmony 2.0 VST3 plugin. It seemed pretty terrific, a bit like Melodyne but in some ways better (and costs less).
However when I pressed the Harmonise button Reaper stopped responding, for a long time. I gave up waiting after a while and terminated Reaper.
However when I reopened my project it reported that it it could not find Kontakt, nor Decapitator (Soundtoys) (and others) all of which were being used in the project. Sure enough when I click on the FX button Reaper reports that Kontakt etc cannot be found. There is just a blank where the plugin should appear in the FX window.
I have tried clearing cache and rescanning, and also deleted the Kontakt instance in FX and tried to reload, but essentially Kontakt and others have disappeared from the plugins list.
If anyone has any experience of a similar thing and knows how to fix it I'd be grateful for your insights.
Peter

Are the kontakt .dlls still there? If you don't know where they were installed an easy way to find them (or anything for that matter) is to install Search Everything and use it to find them. If they are there try pointing Reaper to search that specific location; if not re-install kontakt ( etc).

Maybe try this:
1) Options > Show REAPER resource path ...
2) Move the 'reaper-vstplugins.. '.ini files to a different location (outside of the resource folder) and keep it as backup
3) Restart Reaper afterwards (which should rebuild the plugin .ini file)
4) Maybe also do another [Clear cache/rescan], as well - just in case
Or try to make a portable Reaper install to a separate folder (side-by-side to your existing install) to check if the issue is the same there: http://lacinato.com/cm/blog/25-reaperportable

Crash, lost VSTs
Oh and Komplete Kontrol missing from plugin list also, and missing plugins not available in a new project either.
Updated Reaper to latest version, which did not assist.
Reinstalled Kontakt (5) from Native Access, still not available.
All dlls are where they should be.
Checked VST paths in Preferences. Most of these have gone. Not sure if it was the update that did that or my earlier crash with Vielklang.
Added back NI path and rescanned and got all of my NI plugins back.
Did the same for all other paths (that I could find! Plugins all over the place!). All now seems to be working, including on original project that crashed.
Phew!

Thanks
Solger thanks for your advice. Looks like our posts crossed. I hope I've fixed it. Not sure whether the crash knocked out my VST paths or the update, but either way now fixed.

Great to hear that you could resolve the issue
Just as a general side note:
The VST folder path used in the Preferences is stored in the reaper.ini config file (located inside the Reaper resource path).
So it looks like the freeze/crash/termination might have somehow corrupted or reset some things/files ...

as a backupbackupbackup I copy the VST list in Preferences as a text file and save it. Personally, I find it easier to edit a text file if it needs changing.
