Thanks guys... The making of v3 (and all the journey up to now) has been a thrill. Looking forward to the v4 alpha-beta testing cycle. To help take Reaper to the next level. The brilliant minds behind reaper, as well as the brilliant contributors in this forum will make sure v4 comes with a blast.

Aw dern! I have been holding off on upgrading my 2.5.8 licence because of a couple of niggles but also because I am still not thru working out all the stuff in 2.5.8..... and now you do this to me!

Think what I will prolly do is get the licence and er not use 3+ till I am `100%` on 2.5.8

I know - I`m old and dumb.

But as always an excellent deal with the added bonus of a gesture towards those of us that put our money where our mouth was a while back.
Well done Justin & Co.

Great news thanks

I bought a license on September 6th 2007 - is that a v2 license or a v1 license?

I'm just trying to work out whether I should be buying the $40 v3-v4.99 license now, or wait a few months and buy the $50 v4+ license.

Thanks!

September 2007 would have been a REAPER 1 license, meaning that license is only good through 2.58. If you are currently using a REAPER version later than 2.58, the right thing to do would be to buy a license.

Unfortunately there isn't an upgrade discount from REAPER 1 licenses. Hopefully by this point, somebody who's been using REAPER for 3 or more years on their original v1 $40 license has gotten their money's worth.

Bugger! I can`t believe I have been around long enough to have a 1.xx licence and STILL don`t know how to drive this thing above 30mph!

Looks like I should get the that licence as and when I start using 3, then...

Well..maybe not all junk. But the value per dollar compared to Reaper sure can make it feel that way.

Hm,

I bought my Reaper license on 1st of August 2010 and payed $60. According to Cockos' mail I will my key is valid until Version 4.99 . Do I get a new key after that version? Or what? Please, clarify my confusion. Thanks.

your current key will unlock all versions up to 4.99

after that you need to upgrade @ what ever the upgrade price is that year

Well,

this is the type of answer, i didn't wanted to hear.
The new price is about 33% less. Without any prior announcement.

I don't even use reaper for a whole month. Without any trail period.
Couldn't there have been any retroactive arrangement?

Don't get me wrong ...
it's not about the money, it's about the extend update period.

there is no extended update period?

$60 Reaper 3 license valid to 4.99

$40 Reaper 3 license valid to 4.99

the $60 license had a more extended update period than the $40 as there have been more updates applied to a older license,

next year (when Reaper 4.0 is released you will be able to buy a Reaper 4 license that will last till 5.99 for $60)

so if you waited a month you could have saved $20 if you had waited 6 months then you would have saved a hole version number

i'm glad i got in before the price drop as i had been using Reaper for a few months before i could pay for the license,

Primelpott, this message from Schwa gives a clever reason why there's no retractive arrangement.

Okay,

cleverness or not. It leaves quite a bitter taste ..
This is 33,33% less. For three weeks? 10% would be okay. Prior notice would have been okay.

@subz :
If they had made a version leap for example from 3,66 to 3.7 or so
- I eventually could understand. But I bought 3.66 and now it's 3.661.
No really extend service period ...

This is a bit unfair, isn't it?

But I will stop complaining - Reaper is even at $60 a real bargain.

Yes. Whatever the price you paid, you're up to use Reaper updated to 4.99. And no other DAW with such quality offers this to you.

Super excited for R4! I am a huge fan. I think I'm starting to annoy my clients and friends by giving them the Reaper "hard sell." The software is great, and y'all's business philosophy inspires loyalty in a major way. I wish the Reaper team tremendous success.

Maybe start a separate thread with some of the things you don't like and I'm sure the reaper "fans" will help give advise on getting reaper to work the way you'd like. It's very customisable and has a few amazing add ons that might help you.

Ummm can I get a boxed version of Reaper with all the updates included along with the dongle to compliment my other boxed versions of software that I overpaid for so that every time I sit down in the studio I will remember how much Reaper really cost me. Sonar6-8+Cubase5+Reaper=$1860

We are sorry about the bad timing for some purchases, but we could not think of any more fair way to lower the price.

Announcing the price change beforehand is highly unfair to anyone who doesn't read the announcement and buys at the higher price before the price change takes effect. It's also unfair to anyone who buys just before the announcement.

Refunding $20 to anyone who bought a few days before the announcement is unfair to somebody who bought an hour before whatever cutoff date we pick.

Refunding $20 to anyone who complains is unfair to anyone who doesn't complain.

Not offering the price cut at all is unfair to anyone who buys a REAPER 3 license shortly before REAPER 4 is released.

We are very sorry for any bad feelings this price change may have caused for people who bought in the days before the announcement. But to lower the price at all, there has to be some moment where the price is higher, and then some moment afterwards where the price is lower.

In the end, we hope that anyone who buys REAPER does so because they expect that REAPER is worth the cost they paid for it.

When REAPER 5 comes along, if there are any suggestions for a more fair (and not overly complicated) way to manage the price changes, we'd be happy to hear them.

Worth every penny here.. and as soon as I start making money with Reaper I will upgrade to the commercial license, no matter if the price is marked down to whatever, 1/2 a minute before i buy it. Honestly with Reaper I feel that I got my moneys worth and then some and I can't say that for any other peice of software that i bought, well I feel maybe stillwell will be on par with Reaper after i send some money their way.
Thanks guys

I bought just a few days before the announcement, so I'm out the $20. Oh well, life goes on. I knew the new release was "coming soon" and been using the evaluation license for long enough. I knew I was going to jump in, so I wasn't about to sit around on the off chance that prices may or may not go down. At $60 for what Reaper delivers, I'm not about to quibble over a few bucks. I was once bitten by a similar situation with a Sonar upgrade and trust me - my bad timing cost me much more than $20.
