Default The best of everything thread you use in reaper.

i'm ill in bed with flu.....which drives me bonkers cos i cant do music reaping.
yeh pipe...i'm getting old. lol...
but got to thinking this year i'm trying to upgrade various areas of my little daw studio set up.
so anyone wanna comment on the best low cost devices they use
with their rpr daw ??
it can be anything.
sound card/mic pre/guitar amp/stomp boxes/...preferably under
a few hundred buks...ie..those GOLD devices you just love.
cos i'm curious what others use with rpr that takes their tunes to a new level of quality.
me..i got two things for xmas pressys.
maudio pro 3 monitors. they went back.
couldnt crank them. also a zoom g1.
as ill not a lot of time to work with it.
except i found an interesting technique.
other day as a test i laid down a zoom track , then invoked one of the rpr amp sims and layered some interesting tracks.
so the zoom i might keep.
so what are your fantastic devices you use ??
on one of mysongwriting amd's ive got a edirol ua1ex usb interface. v cheap for roughing out tracks.
but never a prob with reaper. works flawlessly.
i just plug out of mic pre into it.
and record away.
what are your tricks ??/devices ??

Sony DPS-V77 - awesome FX box which can be had for ~$2-300. Listed at like $1300 when it came out. Awesome verbs, distrotion, pitch modulators.

MSH-1O, MSH-1C - http://www.naiant.com. These little mics (omni, cardiod, respectively) sound really good, and you can buy a handful of them for $100.

Stedman metal popfilter - Works well, durable, cleanable.

Intellitouch tuner - The white one without the backlit display is only $25 and gets used all the time. Works off vibrations, not sound, so there's no more "can you stop playing because I'm trying to tune my guitar"

Boss TU-2 tuner - Fastest tuner on the planet for electric instruments. Solid.

-the Zoom B1 (bass) sounds awesome IMHO, and actually has a nice output level, perfect for recording, unlike my Behringer BDI which sounds like chewbacca was puttin down the lines without shaving first, BUT

-the Behringer AM100 Acoustic Modeller does a surprisingly decent job of making my electrics sound like acoustics... not perfect, but well-good enuff for $40AUS (which is kinda like peanuts)

p.s. time spent with the zoom G1 is well worth it, but be careful as the gain on this unit tends to be way too high and on most of my patches i have it set not much more than 25% and usually lower- between 50% and 100% it really doesnt add much more than mud! the reverbs kinda suck, but when you're DIing may as well leave that til mixtime anyway

+1 on the msh mics, they are amazing for the price.

also... the gls audio es-57. best sm57 copy out there. sounds just like a 57 up top, but the low end is a little different. the low mid hump seems to be further down than the 57. sturdy as a 57 and $29. $79 for a three pack. sounds sweet on an amp, snare, and toms.

Behringer XM8500 Dynamic mics. They sound just like a Shure SM58 come with a stand clip and case for $20.00 or a three pack for $59.99.
