Default Workaround for Automating VST's

I love my mod wheel and my knobs, but I can't get them to connect to any of the controllers when I call up a VST in Reaper. Maybe I'm silly, but there surely is a way to do this.

I thought I saw a thread that was posted a while ago about using automation for VST's. I can't find it but I do remember rading soemway that this could be accomplished. Can anyone help me out with this please?

Thanks!

there is no way to use MIDI ccs to get to VST automation yet. You can, however, look into if your synth uses midi cc's (most do for pitch and mod, but some also use it for some other controls), and then change the CCs that are being sent from your controller, either with its own system, or through a software intermediary.

Thanks, Jason. So if I just CCs I should be able to for instance record an automated filter sweep?

If the vst uses ccs to control cutoff, or resonance, then you would just have to use those ccs. But really, vst automation is so much nicer.
