Default dipping my feet in a new genre.. Is it working?

Hey guys,

I never really played with synths before... But I sang on a lot of techno/trance/pop songs because of my gig, and I became quite fond of it.

So I kinda tried to mix my regular guitar driven songs with a heavily synth driven groove

I pretty much wrote everything on that song, and then Kelly, my duet partner graciously lent mer her voice for the back vocals.

Recorded and mixed on our favorite DAW, but I don't know what my mastering guy uses at his studio.

Is this an avenue worth exploring?

A relation so toxic and addictive it's like KEROSENE

Enjoy.

Normally I'm not really a fan of anything "synth", but I think this is a very good song and very good mix/production. I enjoyed listening to it. Keep plugging away, as I can hear this being appealing to a larger audience.

Thanks for listening to it! I'm much more a guitar kinda guy than an electro pop guru.

I'd be on your side of the fence if I didn't sing for so many house artists lol. So I'm trying my take on it.. Still an embryo, but I'm getting there

Hi, I'm really digging this track - especially the vocals - really expressive and individual. The chord progression/melody contour is also really original and captures a very specific feel that I really enjoyed.

I like the idea of the acoustic-y stuff juxtaposed with the electronic, and I think the sounds you've chosen work perfectly.

One thing that I noticed that is probably a little on the picky side is that the rhythm sections seems to be ever so slightly at odds with the vocal. It's hard for me to explain, but it kinda sounds like they are pulling in slightly different directions...

I think it might be the four-on-the-floor kick pattern that seems to be dragging, and especially in the choruses, it gives me the feeling that the vocal is rushing there. Maybe a different kick pattern might move the rhythm better so that it matches the urgency and forward momentum of the vocal?...

In any case - very cool stuff!

Thanks for listening, and I agree.. Especially in the first chorus, eh? I think a different pattern for the chorus might work better.. Thanks for the critic!

Another thumbs up from me. Love the interplay between the chords and melody. Excellent sway. My only suggestion would be a break or two in the rhythm here and there. Possibly mix in a "dreamy" guitar lick over a synth bed that fits melodically with the rest of the composition. Not too long though, just enough to make the listener want to hear the drum and existing groove take over again. Excellent work Greg! Do not stop.

Wow, just listened to this track - did I just time-slip back to the 1980's? This is great! Just a very well performed track, jeez I'm jealous at how this sounds. I don't care what this genre is, the song is fantastic. Performance and production are so well done.

Thanks for the kind words I think I can consider myself a "veteran" lol, considering how old I am and how long I've been messing around with Reaper lol... But synths and romplers are definitely not as familiar as a guitar, bass or mic.
