Default Reaper won't play AVI videos (M1 chip)

Hi, just switched to Mac and to my surprise, Reaper wont pay AVI video files. On my old PC Reaper loved AVI files and worked butter smooth with them. Furthermore, my new Mac wont play AVI files when I double click on them and sends me a "Format Not Supported" message. Is there an easy fix for this?

Thanks!

You need to install VLC player and ffmpeg for the libraries (codecs) they come with.

https://ffmpeg.org/download.html#build-mac

I don't know if these are M1 native yet, but Rosetta2 should handle them.

Apple's way is the best way. Don't take my word for it. Just ask them. That's the reason I don't, and never will, own anything with the Apple logo on it.

Just for balance, Apple's way has frequently been the best way (not always I will agree) and has kept things moving forward when protectors of the status quo have held us back. That's the reason why I own ten Apple devices from iPhone to iMac and since ditching Windoze have never looked back. I have to use a laptop with Windoze 10 for work purposes (GDPR stipulation) and I am constantly reminded how behind the curve it is. I will give praise for SQL Server 20xx and Visual Studio though.
