New Computer/keeping the old?
Hello, I am thinking of building a desktop for recording and mixing. I am current using my laptop with (purchased) Reaper. Can I use my existing keycode on both machines or should I purchase it again for the new machine?

Your license is a simple, locally controllable keyfile that you can use however you like. Many people (including me) keep a portable copy of Reaper on a flash drive, with license key, so we can use our activated copy at a remote location.
So no problems at all. Reaper's enlightened copy protection is one of the many cool things about using it as your DAW.

When I read the licence detail, it looked to me like you can install on more than 1 computer BUT only use ONE of those computers at any time unless you buy more than 1 licence.
The licence terms seem a lot more reasonable in that respect than some I've read, even so I get you asking the question. Terms and conditions are often incomprehedible without a degree in gibberish.
As to how to put a portable install of Reaper on a USB stick and port that around, I don't know that works, without windows having its registry entries or linux or whatever having thier equivalents.

Justin & Co treat us like responsible adults, basically.
Unfortunately, not everybody is.
But I am glad to have Cockos assuming that we all are.
Respect, Justin

Thank you for the comments. It seems the fairest thing to do is to purchase another copy for a new machine if I going to use both machines.

(grin) only id you are going to always be using them both at the same time.
I have reaper on my studio desktop machine and on my laptop, plus on my Mac Mini, all three using the same key.
But obviously I can only use one machine at a time, so no problems. If I ever grow two pairs of hands, two pairs of eyes and two brains, I will buy another licence.

Just picking up on something you mentioned earlier ...
REAPER does not write to Windows registry so you need have no worries there.
To do a portable install, check the portable install box when running install program. Send it to your flash drive and after install finishes, copy your licence .rk file there.
And really, as ivan says, unless you have two heads, two brains and four hands you really shouldn't need to buy a second license!
