Hey, guys.
Don't forget this little gem:
+ Support for dragging images onto TCP for display (optionally in MCP as well)
Drag ANY image onto the TCP, and bingo! (Although small .jpg/.png/.ico files are obviously the best bet). How 'bout a quick web cam snap of your pride and joy in the flesh? No need for imitations!
Here's one I took of Eric when he popped 'round my house the other day for a quick jammin' session:

The reverb representation is pretty clean there and it's easy to recognize the delay as well.
Btw, the slate icon (5,3 in the preview image) is a good overall production sound icon. And to be honest, I'd almost forgotten we can put our own gfx on the TCP in alpha2. Time to get those mics up and spinning, maybe grabbing the odd image off the manufacturers and gear shopping sites.

Track Icons
it looks good with track icons, but in OSX it is not saved. Next time opening the project no icons are there.

Regarding bass and guitar, I like the earlier suggestion of including headstock icons. If you proceed with the instrument bodies, a minor quibble -- the Fender jazz and Precision models represent the lions share of basses out there but are not included in your original posting. (No offense intended to the Ric and Musicman users out there.)

Oh - how embarrassing. I only just realised we could set track icons because of this thread.
Very nice. Will definitely be using this.

I wish we could have each icon in a few color variations. So you can have 3 drum machine tracks, but each one would be in a different shade of grey, for example. Does it make sense ?

I'd be a bit disappointed if we can't come up with something better than that NI style, but easily done, so thanks!

Icons for rewired applications, e.g. Reason.
Or maybe just the generic one:

Been playing with these icons for a bit today. Love 'em! They look great on the default and on my own theme.
White Tie you do amazing work, thanks man.
My suggestion (if it hasn't already been mentioned) is timpani and bass drum (symphonic style) and I suppose now that we can have item notes, maybe a notepad icon for a project "notes" track
Thanks again
cheers

One suggestion that might make things easy for themers:
Assuming they're fine with the regular icons, how about implementing them as a separate black-and-white icon and then an overlay to match however the rest of the theme looks?
Rather than having to make each state for each button, the themer can make one blank, master button and the icons are applied to it. Might have to do it as a mask or something so the icons can change color and such.
Just a thought.

for reverb, how about just a basic 3d perspective lines for a room, with some shading to look like a room.

Reverb thoughts...
Perhaps someone has already suggested this... but, since I believe many people set up two or more reverb types (like a short reverb and a long reverb) in a project, wouldn't it be useful to have icons representing each of the main types of reverb? You could have a small box for "room", a larger, longer box for "hall", etc.
Just a thought.
Reaper is amazing...

Good idea! Presumably it (or a something representing it) can be included since REAPER has Rewire?

- i'd love to see a small combo amp along with the big one
- a few mic varieties would be nice
- drum overheads (birds-eye view of whole kit)
- a few cymbals would be cool
- harmony vocals (3 mics or so)
- a metronome (old fashioned arm type)
- hands clapping maybe
- a triangle?
Effects: - REVERB - Blurring gives the idea of reverb for me. Such as: a mic fading/blurring out to the right (motion blur?), or a blurry guy in a big wireframe box.
- DELAY - kind of like that NI image, but with a real image, drawn a few times in a row with fading opacity. hope you understand that.
- COMPRESION a spring, drawn smashed together, possibly with arrows
These below are not as important - EXPANDER - a spring, drawn pulling apart possibly with arrows
- LIMITER - a stop sign (?)
[*}PHASER - 5 random sine waves (random freq, amplitude, and phase) on top of each other
- CHORUS - like NI's chorus, but again with a real image. Possibly blur horizontally instead of duplicating

true these icons are v. handy,
I'd like some generic ones - one thought was to at least include the alphabet and numbers that can be handy in a variety of situations.
using letters/numbers here and there can convey alot also in combination with usual images.
basic colour differences too would be good.
buttons too! red buttons blue buttons etc. handy for actions.(are we talking about the function buttons too or just track icons?)
oh yeh- a `This is a send track` icon. etc.
i guess if you really want a bespoke one we can just open up `paint` and have a go, but a good base of icons would be sweet.
excitement...

Me too, amazingly useful!
I really wish the media explorer could view all file types though, that way I could set the track icons folder as a shortcut and then simply drag and drop onto the track...
Also to make things easy, it should be possible to drag and drop the track icons just like fx and have them copy.

- Anything "strange": an Escher ladder
- a lollypop
- llama icon, half of it covered with spit

Go, go, go! All icons should be Escher inspired.
Hm... maybe you planted a seed now... Reaper + Skinnable + Escher = Confusion = Good

Something I've not seen before, but which would be useful - numbered generic icons. A guitar with a 1 in it, a guitar with a 2 in it et. Same for synths, vocals or anything we might have several tracks of.
Even if you have a Strat icon and a Gibson icon (for example), it could be much clearer visually if 3 Strat tracks had the numbers 1, 2 and 3 clearly visible on them.
As we're at it, what about the scribble strip 'real' mixers used to use? A few lines of code from some child's drawing app would do I'd guess to give us a virtual version. Just thinking out loud....

I was waiting for track icons a while - great!!!!
Did you check out the icons from Sonar? good ones!
But great work - most of them fit nice - could be a bit bigger - some of them are hard to identify.
In Sonar they are really big (and visible in the mixer too...seems in reaper not). --- sry just seen they do appear in the mixer - but were gone with the old screenset config ---
Lots of stuff missing:
pecussion:
- congas
- bongos
- timbales
- guiro
- woodblock
- claves
- vibraslap
- tambourine
- pandeiro
- djembe
- udu
- cajon
- darbuka
- tablas
and so on.... at least congas - bongos - tambourine - timbales
Horns:
- trombone !!!!!
- tuba
All woodwinds!!! (flute - oboe)
Drums:
- cymbals
Rhodes
and a lot more....
Is there a way to import the sonar icons to reaper?

I'd simply try to specify the type of reverb: a small empty room, a big empty hall, a small church perhaps, then a cathedral, maybe a shoe-box, etc.

The Sonar ones from http://editthis.info/sonar/Free_Downloads#Track_Icons work quite well for me (OSX). They aren't transparent, instead they are on a grey background, but I think they look pretty good. Good enough in fact, that I think I'll fire up my dusty PC and grab all of the icons that come with Sonar (supposing they work too).
Note: Drag and drop icons still broken in Alpha2b on OSX

Others have mentioned drum overheads and mandolin ... those would also be useful for me.
Also worth a mention are accordian and Irish bouzouki. Bouzouki is quite a common instrument for anyone playing Celtic music.
Finally ... a lap steel. If David Gilmour plays one, it's worth having an icon

Now why would I +1 this? Mine is a Sicilian/Greek Bouzouki tuned as an octave mandolin.
