Default When using a Bluetooth MIDI device, what should show up?

Under Preferences-MIDI, if a Bluetooth midi device is connected to the PC and paired, what should show under the midi devices listing in preferences?

In Windows many (most) Bloetooth based "Midi devices" don't come with a driver that makes them show up like "real" (e.g. USB based) Midi devices. Hence thy are nbot accessible by Reaper (and many "standard based" DAWs).

AFAIK, there is a driver (by Roland ? ) than makes such devices compatible.

oops, sorry Michael I should have said it was in Linux. In windows I know that Midiberry and LoopMidi (and others) will work. But those apps I cannot run in Linux.

For such OS-dependent issues, you better use the appropriate subforum.

That's just it though, I am not sure it's n OS dependent issue as much as a Reaper one in general!

To a DAW and similar software, the OS should provide all Midi devices (i.e. the data stream) in the same way (API), independent of the transport layer (e.g. Async, USB, BlueTooth, Network, custom/propriaty, pure software, ...) between the computer and the external hardware (e.g. keyboard) or the computer and the software (e.g. LoopMidi) that is attached.
Native Windows 10 fails to do so if the transport is BlueTooth. Yak !

No idea about Mac or Linux on that behalf.

Thanks Michael. Yeah one would think that these days it should be a relatively simple thing hey!

Assuming your midi device is connected properly into whatever tool is provided in your OS, you should see it listed under Reaper's Preferences/Audio/Midi Devices, where you must enable it in Reaper. I use a midi pitch wheel app on my iPhone over bluetooth this way because I'm too cheap to go out and replace my 20 year old keyboard.

Here is a screenshot showing what Reaper sees when MIDI device connects to OS

Can anybody confirm that in Linux and/or MacOS, BlueTooth Midi devices are identical OS entities as other Midi devices (other in Windows 10 where they are completely different beasts) ?

I can for macOS, it sees my Yamaha Bluetooth MIDI adapter as a regular MIDI device.
