Vintage synths, guitars and amps = "Drift"
I got to borrow some very cool vintage stuff from a local studio (their engineer was a customer of mine, built him a guitar and in trade I got access to a lot of neat stuff and some equipment).
I used their Roland S100 synth (circa 1977-ish) to build the synth pads and lead tone, and sped up some percussive sounding tones to make a clap sound that went in tandem with the bass/snare to punch it up.
The acoustics (although subtle) are 50+ year old Gibsons (Hummingbird & F25).
The lead guitar (my tele) is played through a Mesa Boogie Mark1, a very early one...mic'd into a Royer 121/SM57 also from the studio. That particular setup/amp has been used on countless Texas musicians over the years, from Jimmy LaFave to The Mavericks, Charlie Sexton, you name it. It kind of sounds like my normal setup, which is I guess kinda cool...but it's got a beautiful bell like scooped tone.
Was pretty incredible to have access to all these for a schlub like me on a budget. Only had a week to use them, and I laid down as much riffs/foundations for things as I possibly could in a few days I had free. So, hopefully I get to use more of that as time goes on, but for now this was just a little musical masturbation to see what I could do with some cool gear that has history to it.

Sounds great, Craig! I really enjoyed those cosy synths. Guitar sounds are sweet and your playing is great!
You build guitars too? You're a multi-talented bloke!

I got the building bug many years ago and went to luthier school (Dan Erlewine's) to learn the trade. Worked for a shop doing repair work for some years before I figured out it was a great way to go broke doing what you love, lol.
I just build for fun now, but I do have a few dozen out there that I've done as customs for players I've gotten to know. The one on this tune is a real head scratcher. The guy that I built it for is a Tejano player from San Antonio but does engineering too (very good, I might add). Long story short, he wanted a VERY unique tele, and after adding up all he was asking for I said "You sure about this? It's gonna get VERY expensive". He said absolutely and we were off to the races. I was so unsure of some of it I built the guitar twice, once as a prototype, once for real. I kept the prototype and he got the good one, lol.
It's a tele, with lightened chambers, solid pearloid top, and has a Gibson/LP scale neck, but with a 70's strat headstock. Compound radius, stainless frets, TV Jones pickups. It's pretty garish to look at, but for a dude playing Tejano at a Mexican wedding? Sure, why not. I mean, I wouldn't have done a single thing he did on this if it were mine, but the crazy dude came up with something incredible. It plays great, it's super super comfortable being light and shorter scale, and the pickup combo is wonderful...just does everything well. Luckily, he's very happy...or I'd have two of these and be very broke.
