Default automatic (unwanted!) time stretch when changing tempo

i do a lot of work with sample-based music, so usually the first thing i do with a new session is set the project tempo to whatever loop or sample i am basing it upon.

i do this as follows:
1) select item
2) 'set time selection to items'
3) 'set project tempo from selection'.

i do this so often i've even made a macro for it.
since i upgraded to version 3.73 (from version 3.71), every time i do this, reaper applies an automatic time stretch/compress to all of the items in the project.

i don't want to change the tempo of the items, i want to set the project tempo to the items.
i checked the changelog, and it isn't mentioned anywhere as a newly added 'feature', so i'm thinking maybe it's a bug.

in any case i find it incredibly annoying. i'm going back to version 3.71 in the meantime.

Set your project timebase to Beats (position, time, offset). I think. If it's not that one, try other options. I always forget which one is for what! Anyways, this is related to the timebase so a change in that setting should definitely help.
