Default Help with 'M-audio ASIO'

When i open reaper it says...

"the ASIO sample rate is not supported by one of the USB interfaces! Please check your sync settings in the control panel"

When I click ok to the above message is says...

"There was an error while opening your audio hardware:
Error initializing ASIO driver
Would you like to view your audio device configuration"

I used both reaper version 3.7.6.0 and the latest version and same message comes up with both. Please help.

Disable your computer's onboard soundcard in the device manager. Then make sure your interface's sample rate and the project sample rate match.

Did that help?

Do you have the correct ASIO driver selected? Are all the settings ok? Also, try to reinstall the driver (correctly). What M-Audio USB audio device do you have?

You are using Win7 64 bits and official drivers. If a sound is playing when ASIO is starting, even if you don't hear it, you will get this message. You must 1st stop the sound playing (even youtube or music or anything) before launching Reaper. Once Reaper is running you can play all music & video you want (carefull, in Reaper deactivate the "release of the driver when idle" or something like that, or you will have the problem with every alt-tab)

You can also get the beta drivers
... But as AVID is selling a big part of MAUDIO, the beta boards are now empty. I have drivers ONLY for FastTrack USB MKII*, PM me your email if you need them.

*(6.1.9 are the last I got), they correct this problem and works quite well (had to uninstall/reinstall one time, very bad buzz in all audio)

and sorry for my bad english

This is the exact same thing I had to do for a friends laptop with the M-Audio interface. Should work for you.

I've also seen this error message if you have another application open using the M Audio interface in Win 7(web browser on youtube, etc.)

Here's the thread that was discussing this before. Maybe it'll help.

If I understand you correctly... you are trying to play a midi file through your interface? What?

As a side note, midi does not make any sound on its own, it only sends 'data'. You would need a sound source such as a VSTi (virtual instrument).

+1 to what Bluzkat is saying. It took me a while to figure out MIDI because I had always thought it was a "sound" file -- it IS NOT.

Simply, it is just information....

It was explained to me as typing on a computer without a font... nothing shows up until you add a font. In the case of MIDI you need to add a SOUNDfont as an fx on the track. What ever the soundfont (piano, organ, horn, etc) is what the MIDI will sound like..... Without the soundfont on the track nothing will "sound".

Soundfonts (VSTi's) are readily available for free on line. (KVR has lots).
