Default Playback lag when Bluetooth MIDI device not present.

I have a KORG MicroKey Air bluetooth keyboard. It works fine with REAPER (enabled for input and control with default settings) but I've noticed that if I don't have it turned on, there's a lag of several seconds between pressing play and playback actually starting. As soon as I turn the bluetooth keyboard back on, the lag disappears.

I don't always need the keyboard so I have to go into the MIDI device settings and disable it when I'm not using it.

REAPER x64 6.03, Win10

Exact same issue here, with another Bluetooth device, Korg NanoKey Studio.

On a couple of occasions, the lag has made me wonder if REAPER had crashed.

But how can Reaper know that your remote device is not ready? (bluetooth radio in computer is still ON, so it cannot determine availability by checking this, unfortunately ...)

Fair point but if it doesn't know whether it's on or not, why does it cause a lag when I press play? There are other devices that aren't present but only the BT keyboard causes this problem.

Of course it could just be an inherent problem with using BT devices, in which case I'll just accept it. I can't determine the cause of the problem, I'm just reporting it.

Sure, that part is strange and interesting to know why :-/

I just discovered that it's not just transport lag.

Going to MIDI device settings and enabling the BT keyboard when it isn't switched on causes the preferences dialog to lag by three or four seconds after clicking the OK button.

FWIW, turning off bluetooth on my laptop gets rid of the lag.

As Reaper does not know anything about BlueTooth, very obviously the BT device driver stalls the OS searching for the remote hardware.

Possibly just an issue with KORG's driver then. Anyone able to test with gear from another manufacturer?

I'd also be interested to know if this happens on Mac OS, or indeed on any other DAW?

If it's not just Reaper then fair enough, but if it's just Reaper then it suggests something is not being handled properly.
