I really love Spitfire. They have options from entirely free to very dear indeed.

I like the Originals collection. I think they're repackaged versions of their first Albion orchestra.

I second that. Great sounding library, including the solo stuff.

I just bought Amadeus a few days ago and love it. I don't think anything has kept me going back to the DAW to play as much as this has. Finally, a really useful library that runs in Kontakt "player," i.e. doesn't need the full version of Kontakt.

I bought it and liked it immediately!
This is what I was looking for - easy and fast to use for a complete amateur like me.

Layered performance patches sound impressive:

Kurg Hunter symphony orchestra is only €99 now, but 40 GB! Projectsam sounds better to me and only 8 GB.
Just listened to some demos

As a test to see what I could do with freebies, I threw this together using only Sonatina Orchestra libraries:

it was super easy and I dunno about most people, but I find myself more productive and less self-critical using these more limited instruments as I'm not too focused on realism, but more just getting a decent-enough mockup. Because there aren't many articulations, the most time-consuming part is editing volume envelopes to help with dynamics. A little EQ and reverb here and there goes a long ways too, as samples like these can be quite harsh and dry sounding. I used built-in REAPER plugins only, but a nicer verb would probably improve things more...
