Default MacBook Pro controlled by iPad

I have a 2019 Macbook Pro as my main device.

I want to be able to listen to my mix and make changes while away from my sweet spot.

Can I do this if I pair my MacBook with an iPad?

If so would the 32GB model be sufficient or would I need the 128 GB version?

Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to buy the iPad but this thought if possible would be the deal maker.

Just the stock OSX screen sharing over a network is convenient for me.
There are also remote desktop apps. There's also the Reaper web browser control feature. All kinds of free options for basic stuff. Simple OSX screen sharing is simple and immediate.

My first live sound rig using Reaper in 2009 was a late 2008 Macbook Pro and the first iPad. (And then a UC-33 MIDI controller over a WiRanger USB wi-fi hub.) About 3 weeks after the iPad was first released the lightbulb went off for me. "Wait... This isn't stupid. It's a remote control for a computer with a screen! And this leads to running live sound roaming with a magic wireless remote control!

I have a first gen iPad I'm looking at right now.

All it needs is a battery.

I could use that to remotely control Reaper that I have on my MacBook?

You may have just made my day!

For Real!

That would be amazing!

Now that I have more coffee in me...

I breezed over the screen share a little too quick. I was thinking of and describing OSX and using another computer. I believe you still need a remote desktop app for the iPad though. I was using iTeleport. That was the first and only one way back in 2009 though. There are free apps now and many to choose from. Team Viewer and common stuff like that.

Again, there's also the Reaper web control thing.

If it's just easy for you to swap a battery in one of those things, carry on. Otherwise a 4th gen in nice shape and good battery sells for $100 on Ebay. $200 for gen 5. And Android touchscreen tablets exist now too. Swap battery or upgrade accordingly.

I will change the battery and see if it works...

It's a 29 dollar gamble.

I will study this more because I really want to walk away from the sweet spot and tweak things...

I know purists will disagree from leaving,"The Spot." but I'm thinking outside the box...

I want to experiment.

This is my Hobby not my paycheck so in fun I want to see what happens...

The remote hookup with an iPad is an amazing idea to me....

I don't expect 1st gen ipad to do much with web remote.

You need ipad gen 3 to use ReaperWRB 2 web remote (2012), I think I have that right, when developing we had problems with older ones not having required extensions in the browsers.

I'm using the 4th gen Air and with the sidecar function I'm using it as my video monitor in reaper, wireless. I can control some things with touch and some with pencil.
Its a lot of money to spend for just that purpose though.

Thanks for the info.

I'm gonna look for another gen 3 or more then.

I just want to be able to crank up the mix and walk around.

See what it sounds like out of the sweet spot.

I think I'll look at getting a gen 6 iPad then...

Good choice?

I use Metagrid with a $50 iPad 2.

You can use it WiFi or USB. It's for automated Key Commands... NOT for riding fader or real-time remote desktop.

A lifetime ago I used to use OSC... but Not I use control surfaces and Metagrid.
