Default OT: Easiest/cheapest way to get home movie DVD to YouTube?

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum to ask...

I've got a video camera and a standalone DVD recorder, which I use to make home movie DVDs. What's the easiest/cheapest way to rip this DVD into my XP computer, edit up the bits I want, and get it into a format which can be uploaded to YouTube?

I'm looking for free/cheap apps which can get me from point A to point B with the least amount of hassle. Thanks!

Not sure this would be the easiest way, but you could rip the DVD using Fair Use Wizard then use Super to convert it to a compressed video format like MP4 or something.

I've never uploaded anything to YouTube, but i assume they accept standard video formats.

Why not go straight to computer from the video camera using the free included-in-Window movie maker, bypassing the DVD recorder altogether? Seems a lot simpler to me.

bullshark -- That would be a good idea if I had a firewire card and I didn't already have some of the video I want to transfer on DVD.

teej813 -- Thanks! That's what I needed.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio. Uncrippled 30 day demo.

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/...ct.asp?pid=446

Use the trial period to edit and convert whatever you want. Be prepared to buy it after. You'll like it a lot. $79.

But you can get a lot done in 30 days...

Edit: I see you have no FW card... never tried it but Vegas should be able to extract audio/video from a DVD *.VOB file. Just copy it to the computer first.

Short of Reaper... it's the best value in software I've ever seen. If you try it and need help with the functions let me know... it's pretty easy to use though.

use a linux computer.

if you can use ubuntu and download the ubuntu studio video package.

that'll include everything you need.

Kind regards
