Default MIDI Learn Dialog: Restrict range of values

When I assign a slider or knob of my MIDI controller to an effects parameter in Reaper, it would be nice if I had specific control of the range of values. By default, I believe it's always 0 through 127, but sometimes there's a parameter like "mode" or "type" that might only have 3 or 4 options. It's almost impossible to turn the knob so delicately as to not quickly scroll all the way to the last option in such situations. I see there are over 15,000 posts here so if this has already been requested, feel free to link me to the existing post. Thanks!

"Midi Learn" is inappropriate for use with decent surface control devices. This is what CSI is all about.

See the "Surface Control" subforum.

But not every one has a Control Surface.

May keyboard controls come with 8 knob or sliders or both. Using them for straight-forward parameter control should be possible. Reaper's "MIDI learn" should support value ranges (as has been requested several times).

Yes, Parameter Modulation has "MIDI Link" which does have bas value, scaling and offset. This may be a suitable alternative for the OP.

And it should not be within the capabilities of Cockos to combine those features from Param Modulation into MIDI Learn.

The point with the CSI Reaper extension is that any device that can send/receive Midi or OSC can be used as a Control Surface.

But it needs to be considered that the documentation still is in it's infancy, and hence it might be rather painful to create the configuration for a device that not already is covered by configuration files done by the experts dwelling in the "CSI" forum thread.

Yep. But only with a device that sends Midi to a track, this is a very viable option. But "Learn" is for devices that send messages to the Reaper Control Path (and not necessary are assigned to an "armed" track.) CSI uses a third way of message routing and uses neither the Control Path nor an armed track.
