Indeed, this looks incredibly slick. My Pure data patch is very jealous of the looks.

BCR-2000s don't have to be jealous though. Using OSC<-->MIDI conversion, you can get that awesome bidirectional control to your BCR/BCF as well (see this rough example - better ones to follow). As far as REAPER supports parameter feedback anyway (I would still love to see "Track FX" parameter feedback, for example). But still, there is no way I can make a Pd patch look this slick. With Max, maybe...

For people creating OSC control surface apps / layouts like you and myself, it is useful to know, because if it can be avoided, they don't have to explain other users how to edit things to get them to work.

(And let's discuss this further in the new thread I made for it.)

This is probably the last update for some times, i will wait for the final 4.23 to include the eq management. Thanks to all for you kind words it really motivate me to optimize this layout.

Hi you all, hi Diversgens (excellent jeu de mot).

first : a GREAT thanks for the work, that is exactly what i was looking for, congratulations. However i noticed some problems. I'm surprised nobody else did, so i wonder… Anyway here they are :

They are all located in the Mixer page.
"select item under cursor" open 2 "create new track" dialog boxes.
The buttons in the Action tab lead into strange zoom behaviors. All the blue buttons do a full screen zoom on selected track. So do the "mute" button on the master track.
The red ones work properly but toggle full screen zoom on selected track. So do the "¼, ½…".
All of these buttons delete time selection when tapped. If time selection is locked a dialog box appear asking to unlock it until you have done it.
In the "strip" tab (in "Mixer" page) both "mute" and "solo" buttons don't work correctly. "Mute" don't work at all and "solo" behave like a cycled action : first, nothing. A second tap mute all tracks. A third one solo the selected track.
Last, in the editor many objects (transport line, strip and midi pages…) are invisible on the Lemur. I have to delete/undo to make them visible.
Strange isn't it ?

I'm afraid these problems are specific to me, that's strange because i work on young macbookpro/ipad, dedicated to this use and not filled with problematic apps.
Anyway, from my point of view (and despite all that stuff) this layout is absolutely amazing.
Thanks again.

Default A bit of explanation

well, it's getting better.
I solved the "full screen zoom" problem, it was quite simply a custom action…
my apologies.
Searching into the cycled actions editor, i had a bad clic and erased the whole content… there is a good side, the "solo" problem is no more. So it was related to a cycled action. Once again, my apologies, i'll pay my round as punishment.
But the "mute" problem remains and i can't find any solution so far.
About the "select item under cursor" problem, i had a look into the script in the Lemur editor and noticed that it was mapped to cmd id 53488, aka "Xenakios/SWS : (Deprecated) Create new tracks". I modified it to cmd id 40528 and it works pretty well now.
Well, i hope this reply'll make you laugh a bit, and maybe help.
Cheers.

Hi Toutattachésansaccent (pour un pseudo, c'est un pseudo ....),

this are the limit of the specific action in the template, they will be different for every Reaper configuration it depend of the theme, Reaper versions and SWS versions, i hope every one (like you do) can change the id action in regard of his proper version. Everybody if free to tweak the layout and make it different/better for there needs.

I just look at my last version again, and you are right the action under "Select item under cursor" doesn't work anymore but the 40528 doesn't work here, i have to use 53471 .....
But there is no problem here with the mute button, did you download the last version in the post #42 ?

In the midi interface, it's normal if you don't see the strip, keyboard and fx param they are hide by default, to tweak the main page.

I hope you find the key for the mute problem ... and enjoy the layout.
Let me know...

I'm afraid i'm a bit silly but i want to say it again : items are visible in the Lemur editor panel (transport line etc.) but this area is completely blank on the iPad.
Here is a simulation :
http://flic.kr/p/bTJvat
As you can see, pages and a lot of things are missing. Is it normal ?

Regards.

No it's not normal .... Do you have the last Lemur version (3.1) and Lemur editor ?
It's strange i've never experiment something like that !
Let me know if you can solve the problem with the last version of software, if you don't create a thread in the Lemur forum in Liine web site and i will post there to help you to find a solution.

...boy am I glad I didn't buy that Faderport I was thinking about!

Seriously though, this is about the fifth app for controlling Reaper that I have. This is the only one I think I will be able to tailor to my needs.
Thanks mostly to you guys effort! What you have made here is awesome!

Anyone know if there is a way to add custom icons to the buttons? There are about 20 designs in the Lemur editor, but it would be great to be able to design and add our own...

Also, diversgens, have you been looking at the channel EQ yet? Do you know how it is supposed to work? Does it just control an instance of ReaEQ if it is in the first insert slot or something?

Thanks yimbot for the kind words.

Regarding the channel EQ, this for ReaEq only and i plan to work on it in the next days/weeks. For the customs icons, i think you can use any special symbols from the "caractères" table (sorry i'm french) but i prefer word than symbol that don't mean the same think to everyone. At that time there is no way to import custom buttons in Lemur.

Spent a little bit of time customising this to my own needs, including a colour toolbar like EvilDragons template (thanks ED) and a few of my own Layout and Screenset preferences and dedicated Monitor and Headphone output volume controls.
It is fantastic - I can now do away with all my on screen toolbars!

...now to tackle some custom Midi Instrument controls

Thanks H1,

i was about to post a preliminary version for the ReaEQ support but the "Band" aren't working as expect. I was happy because i have find a way to use the Multiball with the eq. Hope to get it working soon or i will put it as is if someone want to try it or give a look at.

Great - look forward to it. I was hoping you might take a Multiball approach.
Are you planning to use another tab alongside FX, Controls and Actions?

Default Multiball control of ReaEq with visual feedback ...

At that time i use a new tab in the volume, send, strip .. container. I will probably post a preliminary version tonight.
[EDIT]
Here is it. Keep in mind this is only for testing:
- all the ReaEq features are not implent,
- the osc support for ReaEq is actually buggy (no value send to device, refresh button does strange things ...)
- i can't get the "Band" in Multiball or sliders control the "Band" in Reaper
- only control HighPass an LowPass (and programmed to control 3 bands)

But there is Multiball control with visual feedback from/to sliders

Let me know how it works and feel free to tweak it and maybe find the solution for band control (remove the # in the ReaperOSC file in front of the pattern for testing)

Ok,

I think I found the issue here.

Reaper doesnt respond to multiple Bands as such allocated by number. Instead, it wants a separate LoPass, HiPass, LoShelf, HiShelf, Band and Notch. When you set up the ReaperOSC File like this it works well:

FX_EQ_BYPASS b/mixer/bypass/x
FX_EQ_OPEN_UI b/mixer/eqgui/x

FX_EQ_MASTER_GAIN n/mixer/eqmast/x s/mixer/eqmaval/content
FX_EQ_WETDRY n/mixer/eqwet/x s/mixer/eqwetval/content

FX_EQ_HIPASS_FREQ n/mixer/bands/fhighpass/x n/mixer/bands/hpft/content
FX_EQ_HIPASS_Q n/mixer/bands/qhighpass/x n/mixer/bands/hpqt/content

FX_EQ_LOSHELF_FREQ n/mixer/bands/floshelf/x
FX_EQ_LOSHELF_GAIN n/mixer/bands/gloshelf/x
FX_EQ_LOSHELF_Q n/mixer/bands/qloshelf/x

FX_EQ_BAND_FREQ n/mixer/bands/fband/x
FX_EQ_BAND_GAIN n/mixer/bands/gband/x
FX_EQ_BAND_Q n/mixer/bands/qband/x

FX_EQ_NOTCH_FREQ n/mixer/bands/fnotch/x
FX_EQ_NOTCH_GAIN n/mixer/bands/gnotch/x
FX_EQ_NOTCH_Q n/mixer/bands/qnotch/x

FX_EQ_HISHELF_FREQ n/mixer/bands/fhishelf/x
FX_EQ_HISHELF_GAIN n/mixer/bands/ghishelf/x
FX_EQ_HISHELF_Q n/mixer/bands/qhishelf/x

FX_EQ_LOPASS_FREQ n/mixer/bands/flowpass/x
FX_EQ_LOPASS_Q n/mixer/bands/qlowpass/x

So it requires an extra ball in Lemur and them all to be labelled as above for it to work.

I can attach my template if you want, but I'm sure you get the idea and the edited version would be better coming from you.

I also put this script Onload() for Multilabels on the balls:

setattribute(eqball,'labels',{'HP','LS','B','N','H S','LP'});

Having two other issues though:

1) I am trying to get the relevant tab to be selected when touching a ball. I have put the following script in, but it is not working as expected. It seems that when you move one ball, the position of all balls is refreshed and sent.

On Expression (x) (any)
decl ind=firstof(eqball.x);
selecttab(bands,ind);

2) There does not seem to be a way to individually enable the different bands. They are always on. So, if you set it up like the post above, there is always a notch somewhere - not really ideal...

Thanks yimbot,

got it working now but as you describe it (2) there is always a notch somewhere, i think it can be partially solved with the "existing" parameter working for the DEVICE_EQ but we have to wait for an update from the developers.

I'm trying also to select the tab in regard of the ball selected.

Plus i have a new secret tab coming next ... just for the fun

Hey diversgens,

you did a fantastic job! I bought Lemur only to use it with Reaper and I absolutely love your layout and it's working great so far. I'm still not so experienced using both, so I have some questions...

1.) I have Reaper 4.261+SWS, actual Lemur version 3.1 and the last version of your layout. Some unwanted things happen while using the EQ functionality. That includes a somewhat weird multiball layout at the beginning (when a new instance of ReqEQ is added), the refresh button doing some strange things and such. Nothing to really worry about. Does that have to do with the actual OSC implementation for ReaEQ?

2.) there are buttons for "New Project", "Open project", etc. They are nice but do I understand right that I have to use a normal keyboard to hit "ok", answer questions, fill in names and such? For what reason did you add these buttons? I absolutely love to use Lemur while sitting far away from the computer at my synth and so every function that needs additional input from a normal keyboard doesn't really help. Ok, I can have my guitar player walk for me ;-) but he doesn't really like that at all... No critics here, as I am more interested in your workflow using Lemur in combination with these buttons...

- names for the interfaces (need last Lemur version 3.1)
- change for a three state button for input record monitoring (thanks to Antonio Blanca for the script)
- add automation in the main mixer
- moving fader select track (how did i miss the z command !!!)
- change the endless knob for scrub with a bipolar fader (endless knob doesn't work as expect)
- some minor fixes

I let the initial version in the first post, you can try both and choose the one you prefer.

I hope you enjoy it....

Here is a screen capture

I came across this thread recently. I am a studio one user and got this template for osc http://artsunmuted.com/page14/index.html

Reaper is becoming more and more attractive for me and therefore I've started using your osc template. I really like what you've done here.

I would wish for a more subtil color layout in the future but will try to get my head around it doing it myself.

Thanks for your kind word, i'm proud to know that you buy the Lemur app to use my layout, i hope that you will explore all the possibilities this app offer.

Yes i know this is annoying, the Osc implementation of ReaEQ is at that time incomplete and problematic, you can try to remove the line "DEVICE_EQ INSERT" at the beginning of the Lemur.reaperOsc file it will prevent to insert a ReaEQ instance in the first slot of your tracks.

This is not a bad idea, i will see if can implement a keyboard in the template (or maybe the most useable keys) ... but i do not have a lot of time now ... will see

Hello Sambosum,

thanks for yours comments, you're right there is probably to much colors ...

I find your template a little bit to dark (les goûts et les couleurs ....) but the icons are really great, i'm sure that you can do a great job for a reaper template.

Ok, thanks for the hint! I think I remove the line so that I have somewhat more control over the EQ feature.

I would really be interested in how YOU use these buttons! I.e. do you hit "New Project" on the iPad and then walk to the keyboard to answer questions and perhaps fill in project details?

The most useful keys like return, esc, left, right, tab (to select buttons), etc. should be enough, I think. If I have to write something more detailed it will be better to use the normal keyboard, but if I stop a multitrack recording and Reaper asks me if I want to save (all) or discard (all) it would be nice to hit a button ;-))

I work only in front of my computer and my keyboard is just behind my Ipad ...
but here is a new template with a alphanumeric template (for windows ...) i haven't do it myself but find it in the Liine forum (full respect and thanks to kraftf and bxsj for providing it), i have just map "New project", "Open Project" and "Save Project" directly to the new interface.
To use it you have to go in the Lemur Daemon and under KBMouse Out select your Ipad and choose a port (it's port 0 in the template but you can modify it)
Let me know if it work for you ....

PS: sorry sambosun, more colors added

Man!! Am I late to this party!!
This looks incredibly good, but I am slowly understanding that this requires Lemur on my iPad, right? Not TouchOSC, but Lemur?

Perhaps you should mention that in your first post.

Otherwise: awesome job!

I now have touchOSC. lemusR is much more expensive. Is it also much better?

Incroyable! So much work in so little time! Looks very nice and works as expected. I like the fact that it switches to the keyboard when you hit "New Project" or something else like this.

It works really really well, only one thing: you have to be very careful with the "arrow" keys, they tend to send 2 or more keystrokes in a row. Seems as if the repeat rate is a bit high. But that doesn't matter, I know it for now ;-)

@earlabs
I don't have TouchOSC but from what it looks like, it seems to me that Lemur has more possibilities and elements to design the control surface. And I think the price for a brilliant working control surface is not that much, ey?

OKay, downloaded, installed, running (partly).
1. feedback from Reaper to Lemur is not working. PC receiving port is 8000 and iPad receiving port is 8001. Sending interface was no problem, but no other communication.

2. the buttons are still extremely small for my taste. I have big hands....

3. There are only 8 tracks in the mixer? Lemur doesn't respond to changing track/band?

I hope I'm missing a few crucial points here....

Feedback to Lemur must work! I had to setup Reaper to receive AND send on port 8000 and everything works as expected. I've got to admit that I don't know how to change the receiving port on the iPad :-/

But now, the second time I try to use the keyboard, I have some problems. The keyboard shortcuts (Alt+D, Ctrl+M,...) don't work anymore. Alt+<somekey> activates the main menu and the Ctrl+<somekey> doesn't respond at all. Strange, because everything was ok in the morning... Never mind, I'll try to find the problem...

EDIT: MY FAULT! Did try it with an empty project! Umpf!!

@earlabs

Lemur on Ipad is receiving on port 8000 this fixed you can't change it.
I have configure my Ipad to send on port 9000:
goto the settings in the lemur app and chose OSC Targets, on OSC 0, Host is the IP of your computer (you can find it in the Lemur editor, settings>Lemur>Local IP) and choose the port you want (it is not recommended to use 8001 that is use by the editor if i remember right).

In Reaper goto Preferences>Surface Control>OSC>Edit (i suppose you already had your Ipad as surface control) in the parameters:
Receive on port (put the same as you choose in the Lemur Settings) Host IP: the ip of your computer (Local IP)
Send to port:8000 Device IP: the IP of the Ipad (you can find it in the Lemur Editor by clicking on the > icon on the top right)
Hope it helps to fix the communication problem.

@pandel

As i mention in my previous post the keyboard is not mine, i find it in the Lemur forum here, i have only code the fact that it switches to the keyboard.

I have not use it a lot but i have already find strange behavior when i use the shift and alt next to the windows button, i will look at this as soon as i find more time and perhaps rework it to be in the main window as a popup interface (as the numpad in the current template)
