Once you have it hooked up and turned on THEN open Reaper or
run action Reset All Midi Devices.

Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth is the MIDI Synth that is bundled with Windows releases.

Can you post a screenshot of your midi input devices in your prefs

what is your D50 plugged in to?
if it's the focusrite, then naturally you'd need to enable that port

Default Track

Did you arm the track for recording, click the R button, then the input selector appears near that R button where you select the Midi-input Focusrite.

It has to appear in prefs devices first before it can be record enabled. Does the focus right have an app of its own for enabling the port?

My first couple of post have pics of what Im doing. You can see how far I got and where Im hung up. Are they not showing?

My device is not showing in pref devices, which is why Im here!

I also opened the focusrite control panel and there is no midi actions there of any kind.

My fault. Sorry. So in the devices under those MIDI devices double click on the focusrite and enable it for both input and output then you should be good to go

Good deal The track is now showing signal...AND its printing midi data when I record...I just dont hear any sound. I tested my cables and my return line is bad.

Thats always fun when learning a new setup! lol

Thanks for pointing me to opening the focusrite in prefs, I would not have thought of that!

So the MIDI connection is only going to record the MIDI data. If you want to also get the audio out of your d50 you're going to need to run a couple of TR mono output cables into the inputs of your focusrite. You can have one track for the midi data and then another stereo track for the two audio channels. Then you can monitor the audio channels as you record and refine your MIDI data. Then when you finally get it sounding as you want you can play back the MIDI data and commit it to a stereo audio track.

To just monitor you will right click over the arm and select the Record disable input monitoring only

I just edited the last post...but...if i want the midi data to trigger the sounds in the D50 on playback...I need to send that midi data out of the focusrite to the device...

Am I right?

Yes and simply playing the track back will do that as long as you have the midi device enabled for both input and output

Ok right now the midi is printing when I record.
The keyboard is sounding when I play it manually

BUT

The keyboard is still not "playing itself" when the midi track is played back.
Make sure you have enabled the output midi device in reaper preferences and also make sure that your d50 is receiving MIDI on the same channels like channel 1 or Omni for all channels

For your midi input in reaper select all channels

not quite, you also have to set up a hardware MIDI send from the track
