Default "Track input FX" Adding a compressor emulate a hardware studio?

Does adding a compressor in the track input fx have the same effect as using a compressor as most do in professional studios with analog gear? It's the same thing right? Just printing audio with the compressor taming a vocal or a snare mixed with the dry signal?

no it's exactly the same as doing it after the recording. The only difference is that you can't change settings anymore...

No, it's not the same. The pros do it because they a) wanna capture the sound of the particular compressor while tracking and b) wanna tame the transients already before hitting the converter to have the latter converting a hotter and more levelled signal resulting in better s/n ratio plus avoiding clipping. There's no benefit in compressing the signal - once in the digital domain - before recording it.

So you would favorably do this later as the process will then be reversible/non-destructive. You're loosing your editing options by recording a processed signal. This is equally true if you are recording through an analog compressor, though. ReaInsert allows to insert analog gear after the recording at the expense of an additional conversion cycle with more or less impact on the sound quality depending on the quality of the converters. Using a fairly decent converter, sonic impact imparted by additional analog processing is much more relevant and therefore desired than the potential degradation due to the additional conversion.
