Default Echo in headphones with Reaper and Focusrite Scarlett Solo

Hi. I have a Mac with High Sierra (10.13), Reaper 6.03/64, and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen.

When I record, I hear an echo in my headphones whether Solo's Direct Monitoring is on or off. Focusrite articles say issue will occur only when Solo's Direct Monitoring is on. Not so in my case.

Is there a monitoring feature within Reaper that I should disable?

Appreciate your help!

BTW, the echo does not occur on the track; it's only in my headphones while I am recording.

There is a little speaker icon under the record button in REAPER's mixer, that controls software monitoring. Try using direct monitoring on the Solo and turn off monitoring in REAPER.

Default I'm having this same problem but...

Turning off monitoring in Reaper drops my audio from mic altogether.

Do you have direct monitoring turned on, on your audio interface?
