Default Not time selection random area select

Hi.
I want to select any area without the need to set any Time Selection at all, as in the video capture attached.
How can that be done in Reaper? natively or scripted.
That could result in immense time savings for my long projects of selection and manipulation of audio segments. Cubase has been doing it for two decades, just with left click/select and Alt+ for copy.

You need to define a mouse modifier for Select Time

Options, Prefs, Editing Behavior, Mouse modifiers.
Select Media item and left drag as context.

Click on whatever modifier you want to define (but not Ctrl), eg Alt
Double click on the current behavior
Choose Select time from list
Click Apply and OK.

Now you can use (say) Alt drag to define a time selection on an item, then Ctrl drag to copy that selection.

If doing this on multiple items at once you should first select the required items.

Thanks so much, doctor recipe! not exactly such smooth flow but close enough to me. What would be necessary for cut and paste (not just copy)? like my video example show when select/move three parts.
