Default Triggering record with Midi keyboard

I am using Reaper with my Roland Juno Gi as a Midi Controller. The Juno works fine for me to play music using the keyboard and I have had some success using it to control the software. I have used midi learn to map a couple of the knobs on the Juno to a couple of the VST’s in Komplete.

However, I have set it up to trigger record in Reaper when I press the record button on the Juno. This part works, in as much as it sets Reaper off seemingly recording, but nothing actually records. If I press the record button with the mouse it works fine - if it makes any difference I am trying to record Midi in Midi Overdub mode.

I set the record button up using the actions list, see attached screenshot.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I did figure this out....the record button only works when I hold it down. I need a 'toggle recording on and off' action, but couldn't find one.

No worries, I ended up buying a Native instruments M32 midi keyboard instead, which works ok for the Reaper transport functions and tweaking vst settings.

I think you need "relative" rather than "absolute" when you map the function.

See this thread below

Good luck
