Default pitch shift without lag?

I've noticed that ReaPitch takes quite a long time to start the pitch shifting when you play a note into it. Is there a plugin that will kick in much faster, or is lag just a fact of life with pitch shifters?

Hi. Yes, I get that too. Not surprising I guess given that it needs some time to analyse the frequency. I don't think it was designed for live playing really. It's interesting that some programs (I am thinking of the excellent JamOrigin Midi Guitar) that do an equivalent job can be really rapid.
Best I suppose to think of it as an effect to use in a mix like say, reverse.

What I was actually trying to do when I asked the question was to shift down an octave, and I eventually found that the Octaver effect in Guitar Rig does that well enough. But of course, that won't shift to any other frequencies except an octave or two octaves down. Nor can it shift the formant, so its use is limited. So you're probably right.

Did you try AutoTune? I think there's a demo.

I'd not heard of that before. It certainly transposes instruments better than ReaPitch, although the sound is a bit glitchy sometimes. One thing I can't work out is how to get midi control working. I've tried to side-chain midi from another track to the one I'm using Pitchproof on, but there doesn't seem to be a way to make Pitchproof receive it. Is there a solution to this?

Aye, try G-snap. I've used that for "live" (in studio) recording before.

Default Free Pitch Shifter

I've been using WOK Pitcha and Pitcha Delay. These were previously paid and now free but only available in 86, which works fine in my set up thanks to reapers bridge. there is only so much you can do with a pitch shifter after you go past a certain point the audio is degraded and thats pretty much it unless its a pure signal like a triangle sine square etc
