Default time to delve into cycle actions! 8 button looper/control

Hello

any resources would be lovely - or direct answers or principles.

I want to use the cycle editor to perform the following (using footswitches assigned to CC toggles)

Let's say a song is playing (or not), I want to loop over it or jam)

FOOTSWITCH ONE: instantiate recording and loop

press one:

- move edit cursor to next measure
- enable count in
- record

press two:

- extend item length to next measure
- disable count in
- set loop selection to the size of the item
- enable loop playback
- stop recording
- continue playback (now looping)

FOOTSWITCH TWO: I want this to overdub on what was just recorded

- enable play first take only (is this possible?)
- record on new take(s)

FOOTSWITCH THREE: explode entire part horizontally

- duplicate track
- on new track, explode takes horizonally (this would be in use if you took the original recording and played a solo over it, and wanted it full displayed
- delete first take (the original recording)
- make a loop selection for the entire part (snapped to measures)
- go back to original track
- delete all BUT the first take
- copy loop to the entire selection

FOOTSWITCH FOUR: explode entire part vertically

- count number of takes
- duplicate tracks to the number of takes - 1 and name the new tracks layer 1, 2, etc
- explode original item vertically (layers)
- first item, crop to first take (original recording)

these are my initial ideas.

any other ideas for looping would be great, including some midi stuff too

also please point me to resources instead of simply answering questions, I don't want to bother anyone with duplicate questions.

ok I think I got the first switch working!

This duplicates the track you're on (to maintain the effects and give you a separate track for it - if you do this during recording I am sure it will mess up)

it arms the duplicate

removes the time selection (in case you have one selected already)

enables metronome and count-in

moves the edit cursory to the start of the current measure

and records.

When you press it again, it makes it so that the recording fits evenly, and sets the time selection, and repeats/plays

The second switch:

So, it goes back to the previous track (that you originally duplicated) and starts recording. When it stops recording it extends the items and selection to fit the time selection.

one thing that I wish is that there was a way to do this without duplicating tracks in the beginning, but if you have a guitar amp plugin on you dont want more than one source playing through it at one time ... but it creates tons of duplicates if you keep making new loops, but I guess you don't have to do that

- I also can't find a way to come up with a cool explode script that puts everything out to the right...

This explodes the top but I can't find a way to repeat the bottom (the original loop) to fill it out..

man I love this! I realize this is literally just me talking to myself at this point but it's super easy to come up with ideas right now

I think im going to look into things that detect tempo, tap tempo, other helpful things for setting stuff up. But this is awesome!!!
