Thanks for the help axel. I am still having an issue though. I tried dropping several different PNG files on different places on the screen and none of them would stay. So I though maybe it was a scaling issue of some sort. I opened Inkscape and made a simple 60px by 60px design and saved it as PNG. Tried several more times to drag it but it would not show up. Then, suddenly it did stay but it is off center and I can't move it at all. Not sure what is happening but here is a screen shot. Thanks again for your work on this. It really is a very cool program.

Ha! I just went back to try it again after closing the program and everything worked! Now with Inkscape to make my PNGs this will be great! Thanks.

Hi Alex, and many thanx for your great job.
May I ask you a little improvement... can we have button with rounded corners?

Hallo Axel,

I agree with this. Considering how long it can take to make icons for all the various Actions, this little program deserves it. Very useful tool!

Maybe I'm missing the big picture. I messed around and made a few buttons just to play with the funcionality. What do I do with them? How do I get them onto my Reaper srceen/toolbar and assign actions to them? I see how to make the buttons, but I'm totally lost after that. Thanks, and this seems pretty slick.

edkilp start reaper goto the top menus and select:

options/Show REAPER resource path in explorer/finder.

Once there browse to "Data\toolbar_icons" and place your images in there.

Now they should be available to use, Restarting reaper might be required i can't remember.

Anyways once you've got that far to use them in your own toolbars choose:

View/Toolbar Docker - Then right click in an empty space in the docker and choose "Customise Toolbar"

This will bring up the Action list where you can choose the action you want to add to your toolbar.

Choose one and then press "Select/Close"

You should now see your new action/button in the toolbar with a text icon in place, Right click on the button and the toolbar icons window will open up.

Choose your icon and press save.

That's the basics anyways, If you want to replace the main menu icons "Load/Save/undo/Redo ect" you need to replace the toolbar icons in the themes resource folder.

To do this unzip the ReaperTheme.zip with winrar ect and put the toolbar icons in the folder that appeared when you unzipped the ReaperTheme.zip.

Is there an option for transparent background ?
Also set background image or images.
If I drag a png to the button it seems to be on top of the text, z-ordering option would be amazing.

Thanks,
J.

I'm afraid there isn't one click solution for your particular problem.
In this case, don't just disable the composite_toolbar_overlay.png as I told you.
Instead, change the name of composite_toolbar_overlay.png to toolbar_blank.png.
We are still talking about files inside the particular theme folder.
The picture of toolbar_blank.png will be under button picture now.

One more thing. ( I think it's a bug )
Let say you have default button "New project". Let say there's toolbar_new.png for it in the theme folder itself.
In this case, reaper ignores composite_toolbar_overlay.png and toolbar_blank.png.
But, when you chose the same icon for same action in customize menu, reaper doesn't think about that icon as a default anymore
and uses the overlay and underlay as for any other customized buttons.

Edit: The first paragraph works just for transparent buttons of course.
And just in case you don't have the toolbar_blank.png already.
If you already have the toolbar_blank.png, you can try to blend both pictures in GIMP for example.

Whole overly/underlay thing can be very messy if you tray to have different sized buttons
and use it just for some buttons, but don't use it for others.
You have to chose which way you want to go.

Huh, just discovered this. Nice tool!

Hey Alex. It seems the Linux version still lives on version 5 while the windows one is the version 7. I guess there's not much demand for the Linux version, but... Do you plan to update it? I would love to use it natively. The version 5 works fine here on a Debian based distro.

Thanks!

Please make a test.

Download BM Linux

I could test it only on Elementary OS. Dropping a picture is difficult, you must drag the picture slowly to the top of the rectangle until you see a black line...

bump...

how do you make custom-sized buttons in REAPER that are bigger or not as square as the standard width and double width buttons?

I mean, how do you change the size of the icon? Do you just import a bigger image as an icon?

First time viewing this thread ... and this looks very interesting.

Before I actually check this out ... question please

Can this make Buttons that Light Up when selected ?

I have a Toolbar that has selections for different Monitor Outputs. I would like the Button to illuminate the current, active monitor.

Thanks for any info !

You have 3 states, normal, rollover and button down.
You can make them any color you like.

Follow up question please ...

Are all the 'coloring', styling, shape done with this app ? or do we need to work from a separate graphics program ?

Thanks again.
