The 5 I really need to plug in are:
Computer (with REAPER) - mains model
Axiom 49 (via USB)
UC-33e (via USB)
Amp (via audio lead)
Alesis monitor one mk2's (via hand made speaker wire)
notice not listed the thing between my ears - thats rarely plugged in
i usually end up with at least...
synth1
4Front Bass
MinimogueVA or Luxus
Session Drummer2 (will be replaced by Jamstix & Addictive drums when i can afford them)
Classic Reverb

As you can always let someone else mix your music if you need 5 plugins for making music.
1.NI:Kontakt
2.Spectrasonic:Omnisphere
3.Spectrasonic:Stylus RMX
4.IKMulitimedia:Amplitude
5.Samplelogic:Synergy
If you had to choose only plugs for mixing:
1.EQ - SSL:SSL Channel strip
2.Compression - URS Channel Strip
3.REverb : Lexicon
4.Delay/Rev: PSP 85
5.Distorion: Amplitude
If I had to choose only 5 from above:
1.NI:kontakt
2.Omnisphere
3.URS Channel strip
4.Rev:LExicon
5.Amplitude

- iZotope Ozone
- Kjaerhus Classic Chorus
- RoomMachine844
- ReaVerb
- Mykrasound Stereo Echo
Super-honorable mention is the JS ZeroCrossingsLimiter effect. Woooowwww.... if iZotope didn't have so much bundled with it, that JS Zero would be on my list. But we all know that in the real world, we get to choose 6 plugs

Soundtoys - Echoboy

Waves - API EQ
Kontakt
Reaktor
Honourable mention Nexus 2 and Altiverb .
|
1. Neve 88rs Channel Strip
2. Voxformer
3. Pristine Space Convolution Reverb
4. Izotope Trash (mainly for echo effects)
5. UAD Boss Chorus/Flanger effect
I would be very limited though but overall I think I could get a great mix using a combination of those plug-ins and I would have about every effect I needed since many of those are multi purpose.

ReaFir - for noise reduction, this thing works wonders. try it if you havent.
SIR with a few very tasty IRs from lex 960 and 480 - finding the right IR is the key - i tested 1000s of sucky and mediocre IRs (including IRs from bricasti m7, TC6000, EMT plates, etc etc) before finding these. flux verb session is a close second, with valhalla in third
DMG EQuality - the only decent EQ i can afford. once in a while i will use the pushtec instead, if i only need to slightly touch the low mids.
TB EZ compressor - i ususally use volume envelopes, but ocassionally i apply a touch of this one-knob freebie. smooth and clean - i tried many many compressors, and this is the only one i have ever liked.
Nebula 3 - for a tad of vintage pre emu - pretty rare that i use it, but sometimes just the ticket.

Go through my old account here "Obitheincredible". I was a HUGE fan of them before I worked here. Thats part of the reason I got the job with them. If you check my website I had reviews for almost every product they had released at the time too. Working for the company that makes the stuff you love to use is just icing on the cake.
Besides its not ALL IK stuff. I'm actually really into synths and listed 2 of my favs.

I have checked out your old reviews already! I was just messing with you. And congrats working for a company that you already supported! Good for you.

1 Prominy sr5 bass
2 superior 2 (
3 reaeq
4 reacomp
5 miraslov philharmonic
looks like im printing fx from the pod hd
Actually this would cover a lot of FX capability since there are native FX in superior and miraslav not to mention the podhd
Or you could always just get EZmix 2... would that only count as 1 VST?

I am always amazed at the huge diversity in perceived needs of people recording music with Reaper. If one were to judge from this thread, once you get past the concept that you need something to record tracks, then there is not a heck of a lot of agreement in what the basic needs are. I see the same kind of diversity in opinions any time workflow or midi are discussed in the forum. Everyone seems to find a unique path to his/her goal, and often the approaches are so different from mine I have a hard time imagining what folks are trying to achieve. Bottom line must be that the tools we use are as endlessly varied as the music we make.
