Default I am gonna kick your arse if you call me a fan boy! But...

I was one of the few the proud, the mar...errr UAD-1 users that pushed and hoped for a UAD solution, I even bought a non-com license in hopes that one day UAD users would get their proper due. Well I threw a fit and asked openly in the bug forums what was the last word on the UAD-1 status, Justin proposed I send him my card for a couple of weeks just to see if he could do anything with it, if not he even extended an offer that does go above and beyond most software providers where if he couldn't get it working, he would refund my $40 if I asked for it. Well he played, pull out some hair, struggled to get help from UA, and you know what, he gave up. He asked where to ship the card to and if I still wanted that refund, I said no to the refund, I said to myself why give up on the fastest up and coming DAW program that side of Mississippi...so I decided when the card got back to me I would sell it, up grade the computer to run more software VST plugs, and be done with it. Two days or so after he sent it back he said, "don't sell that card just yet..." Well here we are with working UAD-1s, cause Justin is a mad man, errr, mad coder. He gave up, but I bet he lost some sleep doing so, even if it was just 15mins of sleep, but he probably lost sleep over giving up when he sent the card back. I am sure in the back of his mind he was thinking ooooh why didn't I try that...

Anyways, he is a first class businessman trying to change the way software is made, and I see that, hope the rest of you do too. I hope you midi heads hold out a little longer it will get there, us audio heads are swimming in a pool of sav, well kool aid for us the non drinking folk, but reainsert and UAD-1 support are two things that I asked for way back when, and got both in what a weeks and a half time? Crazy...

A great story that tells it all about Justin & REAPER.

And as long as you don't lick I see no harm.

I reckon that card would go nicely on eBay now anyway, with that story attached!

SRR....
i'm real glad it works for you.
ive been called a rpr fan boy on another forum.....but to qoute the old adage..."frankly my dear i dont give a damn..." lol.
i know good product when i see it.
srr...it shows once again the hallmark of any great computer engineer. and what distinguishes them from the rest.
ie...the great ones get real angry if they are forced by circumstance to possibly give up....but they never do....cos it bugs the hell out of them. they go to sleep cheesed off they cant find the problem...n every wakeing hour.....lol.
all credit to justin given the difficult circumstances.

SRR,

Even though I don't own UAD-1 and I was still curious how this was going to pan out for you. I'm really glad it finally works for you. Talk about customer support, what a guy. Have a good one.

You brought back a lovely memory of a PCH quote!

http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/for...=365222#365524

"Our MIDI is what it is today"

The old "never stand still" ending looks funny now I've got used to REAPER updates!

Thats a semi-personal relationship I was not thrilled to give up at all. You could tell Peter was Yoked but straining against it

Still, Justin and Christophe pretty much kicked the living crap out of them so decisively its painful to even comprehend

Agreed. The guy is still fighting the battle there. He continues to give more customer support than Customer Support and still has to take the flak - just look at that post.. gritted teeth.

I think the ex Vegas audio-only gang hung on for a fair old while for Sony to start focussing on audio needs again - in the end it seemed Sony gave up before the users did.

And here we are!! Yayy!

certainly from vegas, if you are primarily an audio user, this would be the next logical step.

Acid, well, for some perhaps... i mean, the midi in acid has some interesting features to it....but im sure some jumped ship from acid as well, just on the fact that sonyfo has been putting out crap since versions 3 or 4 of their software imo.... (sound forge with its different dev team is prolly fine tho at v8)

Justin really is something else. The development of Reaper and the Cockos approach to pretty much everything from pricing to customer interaction is sending shock waves around the industry.

I see so many people, from the SOS forum to the MPC users board who are doing a double-take and saying to themselves 'hang on a minute - this isn't just another sketchy shareware effort after all...maybe I don't need to keep praying to these glossy-box major bloodsuckers'

Yes, it is quite refreshing to see obvious bugs get squashed or a requested feature added, in a matter of weeks, (if not days), rather than the ol', oh we're sorry, but we won't be able to get to that until the next point release. A point release which, can still be another 6, 7 or more months away! Plus, there is no guarantee that it will be addressed, even at that point.

The REAPER phenomenon is quite refreshing indeed!

Cheers,

Bily Buck
