Yamaha i88x + rme adi8 pro
Works fine but don't buy the i88x. It has to be the most poorly designed interface ever. It's a bitch to install. The direct monitoring is a joke. You can't even route an input to direct output you have to use direct monitoring in the app. The latency at 256 samples is 7 in 17 out. It does not even have it's own clock so if you are using just it it runs off the firewire card's clock. I could go on and on. The pres and the plugins are well worth the $240 I paid and the plugins work without the interface.
It's solid though so I just bought a $50 used Behringer line mixer and I route my preamps' unbalanced outs to that for direct monitoring. The balanced outs go to the rme box.

Maybe Brainspawn SpectR, but lacks the phasemeter.
It runs almost as smooth as the digicheck!

M-Audio FW1814
It has been über-stable, kinda like it. Hmmm, well, maybe those pres aren't that good.. Still, for the money I like it!!!

i am now the proud owner of a mackie onyx 1640 w/ firewire. i needed a new mixer and more channels, so i combined both! i have not yet had the chance to REALLY test it but so far i got this to say:
the preamps are noisier than i expected and i am very confused by the fact that 0dB~-18dBFS. it makes sense with recording (nothing can surprise you), but when you playback a normal music-soundfile the meters are just kinda <on>. weird...
however i also noticed that this is really the way to record. it's all easy and fast. drivers made no trouble, latency is short (at least the displayed latency, still gotta test the actual latency), interface is stable. connect firewire, plugin mic, gain, choose channel, record.
and also: the recorded material sounds good. hard to describe really, but it sounds good. i don't have the feeling that i'm limited by my mixer and a/d anymore. the disadvantage of this is that i definately need new mics now
oh and also: this thing is a MONSTER (dimensionally). although it's only 19 inches wide it's very deep. that doesn't really translate through the pictures...

Hello everyone! My first post on this forum
1x m-audio Ozonic (only tested Reaper on this one so far) in my home/mobile studio.
1x Echo Audiofire12 at my mixing studio (5.1) I will test Reaper here also eventually.
1x Apogee AD-16x / DA-16x with 2x m-audio Octanes in the ADAT ins for a 32 ins and a Behringer ADA in the ADAT outs for monitoring (4 stereo headphone mixes in the studio for the musicians) at the tracking Studio. I will test Reaper here, when a mac version comes out.

E-MU 1212M PCI card. midi-spidf-adat combined with great converters, one of the best pci cards under $150
Onboard DSP FX are low end and pretty much useless for anything but headphone mixes though.

I absolutely agree. How about mixing in PM DSP ? I used to read couple of articles how powerful the Emu cards mixer is, how clean mix you can get using it..do you think its worth routing all the audio tracks into PM mixer? Does it make sense?

wow i'm surprised to see the STaudio users! I have a DAC2000 box, but lost the card a long time ago. I was heartbroken.
I have an Audiofire 12 coming in the mail this week, and I can't wait to start tracking.

Audio Soundcard
Hi there,
I use the Behringer FCA 202 Firewire Interface, nothing like what you guys use. It's about the cheapest solution.
I have it hooked up to Behringer 2442 FX pro mixing desk.
No problems with Reaper
I also have a Korg D3200 which is also very good as another option.
Cheers

Just picked up an E-MU 0202 and would love to hear any other views on it. I can't get it to the stated 192KHz (yeah I know I don't need that).
Not sure if I'm going to keep it. There's also the M-Audio Fast Track Pro and even the MobilePre USB at the low end.

M-Audio FastTrack USB here. It's a good budget buy for a first interface to get into audio recording. Line-in/DI and mic input with phantom power. For what it is, I give it a 8/10.

EMU 1616M.
No problems whatsoever in Reaper. It works fine with everything I use (Renoise, Amplitube standalone, Guitar Rig standalone, Traktor, FM8 standalone).
Run my guitar into it too. No problems.
Love it.
Cheap too, in Japan. I got it for 40,000 yen delivered to my door with next day express delivery!

M-Audio Delta 66. I'm very happy with this card, and plan on buying another when I get around to building another computer.
Works well with Reaper, zero problems.

Kinda depends. I've tried to build a home studio with a lot of flexability. I have a Toft Audio ATB-32 and so sometimes I will use it's mic pre's and take a direct out into a MOTU 24I/O. I also have a Firepod which I like, but had MAJOR problems trying to use more than one (daisy-chained via Firewire). After much knashing of teeth and many hours of research online it appeared that the problem was with the XP firewire drivers and not with Presonus. Had to return two of the three Firepods I had. I also have an ART Tubefire which has a firewire interface, but I've never used it that way. Since it can be configured to send the mic pre's out as analog, I usually just patch them into the 24 i/o. I also have a Focusrite Octopre without the firewire interface that goes straight into the 24 i/o as well. Of all that stuff, I like the sound of the Tuberfire pre's the best, and the rock solid stability of the MOTU 24 i/o. I have become very skeptical of any firewire/usb based interface when using more than one. Damn shame... I sure would like to build a dedicated rig for live recording based on three Tubefires, but am not willing to spend the money/take the risk of instability.
Here's a follow on question...what other 24 in/out devices are there out there besides the MOTU 24 I/O? Any that are firewire or usb based? If I could find such a beast, I would dig that. I could then use a laptop instead of a full sized computer for my live recording rig. Only downside with the 24 i/o is the PCI based card interface.

M-Audio projectmix
For me its everything I need cheap pre amps and all!
I had used the supplied firewire cord and it SUCKED.
I would have to reboot or power cycle the projectmix 10X a day.
I moved my firewire card one slot over also but the better Sony firewire cable I think helps.
The rotary master volume knob SUCKS and has latency when turning? The wild weird world of virtual technology!
Reaper works fine!

I use a Terratec Phase 22.
It was cheap and had good test results. I have nothing to complain about so far.

You could get two Echo Audiofire 12's. I have one, and it is sounding really nice. I tracked some drums the other day, and even with the low grade equipment I have, the tracks sound amazing. The Audiofire is 1394, btw.

Oh, and I track everything at 48k/24 bit

I've switched to a EMU 0404 USB @home. It's a well-designed piece of equipment and does exactly what i expect it to do and well, sounds good and makes no Noise (ever).

Roland VSR-880 through RPC-1 PCI Card.
8 channels I/o @ 44.1k/24bit.
My first foray into the DAW world. Seems to work great, but having the HD recorder in between is a bit awkward, and I need to use a mixer for the preamps.
