Default VST delete problem.

Ive recently downloaded 6 vst into Reaper (Blue cat i think!) The problem is ive got each one loaded 3 times. How do i delete the ones i dont want. ie I want to keep the 6 and not the 12 duplicates, right click dosent give me a delete option. Ive been looking at the Manual butcant see anything as yet. This may just be a comp process in general. Any help much appreciated cheers! John.

Before doing anything, it would be best to understand why you have 3 of each:
-- multiple installations?
-- VSTs and AUs?
-- 32-bit and 64-bit versions?
-- variations?
-- something-else?

What does it say in your reaper-vstplugins.ini file for them? You should be able to get to the folder containing the file(s) from [Options] > select "Show Reaper resource path in Explorer / Finder"

I am unable to access Reaper at the moment but i am quite sure it was caused by multiple installations.

Uninstall the ones you don't want from Window's Control Panel (Programs and Features). Don't just delete the extra ones.

Are you saying to delete all 18 plugins and reinstall 6 ie Is it not possible to just delete the duplicates? Thanks for your reply btw !
Or do you mean deleting only will not remove the ones i dont want and i nedd to uninstall them?

I do not know how temperamental BCA plug-ins are, hence my suggestion to uninstall them all (back to a clean system) then just install them once. Deleting the dll files may leave some debris behind elsewhere.

If you can post what is in the plugins.ini file for these plug-ins some-one may be able to provide some more specific info. Also, in what folders are the various plug-ins installed?

Thanks for your time.
I had a look last night and in the programme uninstall (control panel) there is only the plugins and no duplicates.
In the programme (86) file/ in plugins/ is All the plugins ie some say DATA, and some dll. It has the plugins in Mono and stereo.Basically The ones with Data have a coloured blue icon the others are clear icons.
I went to the apps page (win 8.1) and i have 6 0r 8 apps for plugins, 12 google pages displaying the site i loaded them from and 8 pdf form icons (instructions for each pedal.(looks busy)
In the insert box Vst Reaper i have each plugin 3 times.
Ive made a pigs ear of this some how, though i should point out i am new to all this. It took me an hour to purchase my licence but got there in the end! ha. Ive been finding my way with the Home recording for beginners and ive hit the wall!!ha. Thank you for any help with this. John

[All theory]

Don't panic or get despondent, we all started somewhere.

The plug-in files are those with the .dll extension. You will probably want to keep the Mono and the Stereo ones. Those that say data will be some support files that the plug-ins need.

Again, please answer these questions:
(a) if you can post what is in the plugins.ini file for these plug-ins?
(b) in what folders are the (3 sets of the) various plug-ins installed?
(c) can you post screenshots from Explorer for those folders (in Details view)?

As I say, I've never used BCA plug-ins; a BCA user would be better. Or contact BCA for some one to one support.

And I don't know anything about Windows 8. But:

Capture, for a Windows PC:
  • once you have the desired window displayed
  • select it
  • press Alt+PrtScn on your keyboard
  • open Microsoft Paint (or similar)
  • Ctrl+v to paste the window into MS Paint,
  • edit / trim / annotate it as needed,
  • Ctrl+s to save it to disk
Uploading to an Image Server
Upload it to an Image Server (e.g. imgur or ImageShack) and paste the resulting link to your image (or a thumbnail image, with a link to the big picture) into your reply.

Big pictures in forum threads force out the width of the thread pages so a lot of scrolling horizontally is needed to read the other replies, find the links and type a reply. It's all a bit awkward.

Instead, it is better to post a thumbnail image and a link to the bigger picture; that makes reading and replying easier. As an example, imgur.com provides "small square" and full size images.

Attaching to your reply
Or, attach the image files (or a .zip file containing them all) to your reply:
  • In Windows, right-click the image files, select Send To ... compressed (Zipped) folder),
  • when you reply, scroll down a bit, open the "Additional Options" section if needed by clicking the double downwards arrows,
  • click on [Manage Attachments], browse to your ZIP file, select and Upload it.

Sorry for the delay with this reply.
I decided to download some different vst plugins. I found a tutorial on this site on how to set up and save an effects chain. Ive been using this lately and havent got round to dealing with this! problem. Im thinking of maybe just uninstalling all the Bc plugins. I will have a look at your instructions for posting images and hopefully learn how to do it as it would be useful for me to know how to do this though i must admit im not sure i will grasp it.

cheers John. ps Lesson was by Georgemarauder.

Well behaving vst can be installed

... In any folder on the file system (of course it must be visible to reaper)
... Without any traces on the system disk (which often goes wrong)
... Do not need any dedicated installer

To avoid odd behaviour just temporarily move the dlls that are "too much" into a folder that is not visible to reaper....

Default Whe you say "loaded"

do you mean that you have more than one instance of each in the add effects menu.... or have you loaded the same effect 3 times onto one track.... or even several tracks with the same vst in an open window?

Just went back and re-read the posts... it sounds to me like he is loading the same effect 3x on the same track. I'm also getting the impression he's using the "input fx" option.

Somebody needs to spend some serious time with the Reaper User Guide!!

I don't see anything that makes me think he's loaded any FX on any track. Sounds like he's looking at his FX browser, and he's seeing duplicates of these plugins. If he installed them 3 times, they will appear there 3 times each. There are mono and stereo versions of these as well, which will be clearly labeled in the FX list.

I agree with DS.....uninstall, and reinstall 1 (one) time, and tell the installer where to put the things. Or, I also think it would be just fine to go to the VST folder and delete the duplicate .dll files. If that fails, a reinstall will kill about 4 minutes of your day!

Its as you say all in the fx box. In the programme install section there is only the 6 icons, in the reaper fx box there is 18. I think this should be 12 (6 each mono/stereo).
Anyway i havent used any of the vsts as ive been using Georgemarauders fx chain. I think it will be easier for me to go to the vst file and delete the dll files i dont want as you suggest. I will have a go at this tonight and hopefully it will do the job cheers!

In the Reaper VST effects box I have the BC effects duplicated.
I am using windows 8.1. When i look at installed programmes there is only the 6.
In vst box(In Reaper) i have each pedal, one in mono one in stereo and a duplicate.
On the windows 8.1 icon page.
I have 6 google pages (of the website i downloaded the pedals from)
I have 6 pdf one for each pedal.
I think i have duplicated a download.
Sorry i am not clearer with my answers
I copy and paste from download to vst plugins iirc.

I found the dll files in programme x(86) vst plugins. Next to some of the files said copy. I deleted the ones marked copy. It seems to have done the trick. Each pedal comes as mono, stereo and the gain and eq also come as dual.14 in total. No duplicates. cheers.john
