Default How to get this vocal effect

I am trying to get what I think is a reverb effect on vocals like in this song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_bE7u70K0c

It is Danger Mouse Sparklehorse - Revenge.

I think this is similar to a technique used by John Lennon, amongst others, on some of his vocals but I can never get it as good, to my ears at least.

Help gratefully received

Slap echo, pushed up in the mix is the main thing, likely fed back into the verb as well. 100 to 200 milliseconds depending on song.

Thank you so much, I will experiment with Readelay for a start.
Any chance you could recommend a free one?

Also, treat me as a newbie, what does "pushed up in the mix" mean and how do you feed it back into the verb? - put it in the fx list before the verb?

Again, thanks.

Hi. Re free delays there is a bunch including the old actually OK Classic Delay to Sandford Delay and Dead Duck DD Delay. FWIW it took seconds to get close to what you want in Sanford Delay but I think any would be fine.

"Pushed up in the mix" just means "louder".

Create a new track in your project & call it "delay". Put ReaDelay on the track as an insert, there's a "vocal doubler" preset if I recall. Now, "send" your dry vocal track to this delay and mess with the fader level until it sounds like the effect you're aiming for.

Once you've done this, create another track & put a reverb plugin on it. You can now "send" the delay track to the reverb track so that the delay effect also has reverb.

You can also send any other instruments to the delay &/or reverb tracks if you want.
