Default “Seek” while recording

The “Seek” function works great using scripts.

Switching between regions using Seek is an awesome feature.

But as soon as you enable transport record, Seek stops working

Reaper ignores all regions and plows through any predefined regions while recording.

Can we please have a record mode that respects Seeking between regions?

Thanks!

Wouldn't this mean, that the recording would jump to the new seeked place and "restarts" at that position?

Exactly!

It does not do that now.

Instead it ignores the seek and continues recording past the end of the region.

It seems to me it should continue to record at the new region - even if that region is behind where the cursor is or several measures later.

Ok, as long as it is an option, I see the benefit of it.

I think, something like this could be scriptable. Maybe when changing the editcursor-position, the record-position will be changed to there as well.
This would be possible.

I've been trying to do this via scripting using defer and comparing play_cursor position to end of loop/region.

But doing this will always cause a skip in the audio. It is not smooth at all.

I believe this may need to be done at a lower level than scripting but I could be wrong... please enlighten me if you know a better way.

If you can figure how to do this without creating an audio interruption, I'm all ears!

Or recording doesn't restart, just a new item is created at the new position? I.e. editing-while-recording...

yesterday, I was needing to seek while recording too... I'm afraid that quickly restart recording at another position would cause that small interruption in the recording.

It absolutely does.

Which is why I’m requesting a feature to record using seek that is programmed at a lower level than scripting.
