Default MIDI-USB interface not recognized

I'm an old bagpiper and a complete techno-idiot, so bear with me.. I'm trying to record MIDI software ( Epipes/Studio Piper)using a MIDI to USB interface.MIDI is working in the Studio Piper software, and I load up Reaper according to instructions, using ASIO and FX(VST) I get a drop down box saying that the USB/MIDI can't be used or something to that effect. Probably nobody is familiar with the specific software package, butwhat could I be missing here? Additionally, The Studio Piper software interfaces with Cantabile and operates as a VST plug-in..all of that works great, and I get terrific sound reproduction, but Reaper doesn't seem to work at all....

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks and Best Wishes

Welcome to the forums!

If REAPER complains about not being able to open that interface, it was recognized and enabled at least once before.

Is it possible that the MIDI interface is used by another application when you start REAPER? Can you post a screenshot of your 'Preferences->Audio->MIDI Devices' page?

Default Thanks Ollie

I have been opening studio piper to get it running before opening Reaper- Then I use this sequence: New track>arm>monitor input>All MIDI>options>preferences>plug Ins> VST> add> Studio Piper

I suppose I'm missing something, but , noob that I am, I can't seem to figure it out...
