Need Inspiration

Hello everyone, this is my first post I believe. I've been trying to record something for about eight weeks now to no avail. The first six weeks were spent trying to get Cubase Le4 to work, not.

Here's the specs: HP tower with Intel dual core processor running @ 1.86ghz, 4gigs of ram, Windows Vista Home Premium, Alesis Multimix8USB vs 1.1, RealTek (High Definition Audio) version 6.0.1.5789

Deleted all the Cubase stuff and downloaded Reaper 4.1.5.51 so far so good except that I'm just getting burnt out READING stuff. I've downloaded and installed ASIO4ALL but in the Alesis manual it says I should use USB Audio Codec so the Alesis will be set as "primary recording device.

The overriding question is will I be able to make this work? I talked with someone on another board that had a similar set-up and they got it to work. I know that I will only be able to record 'two tracks? at once.
