I won't do it for free but I will offer an extremely low rate for the amount of time required. I'd estimate 5-7 hours of JUST mixing for each song, plus at least 2 hours of editing and organizing to prepare the mix. So 9 hrs x 10 songs = 90 hours + recalls + file transfers!

I am crazy enough to do it, but if I'm going to spend a month mixing, my rent's got to be paid. I have a minimum $ in mind.

If you're serious about your music you need to treat it like a business and you can't rely on charity.

I'm gonna need at least $5.00 per track. Hey wait - that was another thread, wasn't it?

Omni,

I'm here in PDX, Beaverton to be exact.

PM me, and we'll trade phone numbers, etc. I may be able to help you, and since we're local, might make things a bit easier.

BTW, which "battle of the bands" are you guys in?

We're doing the Spirit Mountain Casino battle next Saturday. It's a 15 minute set and 6 bands are playing. We don't really want to do it but the prize money is too much to pass up. Crossing our fingers that we win and can afford to pay appropriately.

I'm not "pro" but I'm ok to give it a try for free

and if you don't like my mixs, just put it in trash

I'll make it for my pleasure

Welcome to the fun!

I sort of did this a while back on the Line6 forums. It wasn't for the album I just posted the tracks for people to mix for fun. Turned out to be a great thread-there were a lot of really great mixes and some cool experimental ones from it.

Since I am putting these into an actual album, I'm probably not going to post ALL of the songs here and will instead work with you guys individually on it.

Practice is in a few hours so the tracks should be posted tonight!

The mix without vocals sounds pretty killer to me already

Make sure you also explain how you envision your mix/album outcome. And to the extend you're welcoming artistic intervention in mixing. For some, mixing is an artistic endeavor, not just correcting volume levels and EQ.

The problem is not what you ask, it's what you get.
Though I think it's a good experience for the forum, you can't expect pro results, nor fix it later in the mastering stage.

This sounds like 'Hey, I got some free participations to run LeMans race, but I only have money to cover the gasoline, so I'm thinking on borrowing my cousin's tunned car'. End result is a burnt car, a last position, and the worst reputation.

Spend money where it's really needed, and avoid lawyer & photos fees.
Sorry if this sounds rude, I'm just trying to help.

I disagree with this for the most part. I have heard some great mixes on this, and other, forums that stand up just fine to what is on the radio. There are some talented people on here for sure (and no, I am NOT talking about myself!)

I do agree with this totally if this is the "one shot"...make it the best you can.

And all of this is an IMHO, take it with a grain of salt, type of post....

I get what you are saying. I've listened to some of the mixes offered here and they are in my opinion, more professional than I can hope to accomplish.

While they may not be absolutely amazing mixes, the goal is to get a better sound than I am able to on my own.

We're not planning on selling a million records and this is only the first release. The mixes I'll be getting here will be more than adequate for my goals.

Alright. tracks are done. Need to pitch correct a couple for the next hour or so. Then I'll put these up on a torrent so anyone can grab them.

Alright here are the torrents.

#1 has everything except drum wavs. It's just the Superior Drummer MIDI and a key map file. The tracks are in both dry and effected format. Vocals are pitch corrected (there might be a few strays) and have no effects on them-I never did get awesome takes

#2 has just the MIDI for the drums as well as the wavs in case you don't have a suitable drum program.

http://www.monova.org/details/372409...ums%20rar.html
http://www.monova.org/details/372409...ums%20rar.html

I am mostly likely to pick a mix that is pretty true to the original, but clearly defined and punchy. I like big dynamics like Taproot-where the guitar come in and are huge sounding but don't overpower the rest of the mix somehow. I've never figured out to do it though. Chevelle or Breaking Benjamin would be good benchmarks for the mix. Breaking Benjamin tends to have a really good deep bass on their more recent tunes and the verses on this song need a strong low bass to lock in with the drums.

That said, if you come up with some interesting mix that changes what we had intended, if it is truly an improvement on the song we may keep it.

Originally the song had some lo-fi drums in the 2nd verse. Feel free to try it out or whatever you want.

The song key turned out to be C Major for the vocals I think.

It's 130 BPM until the bridge then it jumps to 131, 132, 133, 134, then 135 each measure until the full bridge comes in.

The rest of the song finishes out at 135 and the piano at the end should slow down when the guitar fade out. The tempo map was from like 135 to 125 or something.

Have fun guys and we'll chat with you in a few days!

Almost forgot- if you have to use a dry verse guitar the effect is Digital Delay set post amp at a dotted eighth note (344 ms) 0 to low feedback and about a 50% mix.

better? or will I need to post them online? I signed up at mininova but it'll take a few days to get approved.

Some docs said I could just send the torrents to friends and it should work, but I haven't done a direct torrent before.

Default Am I missing something?

Hi Omni and all,

I've been curious about this since you posted, but I can't find what link to the tracks you are talking about, to listen and maybe offer a mix.

What am I missing?

The person who posts the torrent (omni) needs to stay online to seed the torrent and get it started, otherwise it's useless.

Someone try the initial torrent link again. I've enabled a feature on my torrent program that I think will let it upload now. could be wrong.

nevermind, you have to be using bitcomet and have a special magnet link

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:VHS3XF33AI6DRNMUAW6PRKALFEQJTN 22&dn=After%20All%20Drums.rar&xl=353569499

magnet:?xt=urn:btih:HIOH6XSTEMMNDYHL7Z4FGEU4OY7ZPT CJ&dn=After%20All%20Wet%20and%20Dry-MIDI%20Drums.rar&xl=612676898

try that? not sure how to use it lol

Thanks I'm looking forward to mixing!

Default Links not working

Omin, I tried to download from the original links with no luck. Any chance of getting a direct download? Also, reading your post I had to chuckle since my favorite bands for mixing this type of music are:
Chevelle
Breaking Benjamin
Tool and
A Perfect circle

How many times to make this ?

If you don't plan any deadline, you'll receive 1256 different mixes in the next 2 years :-)

just... my opinion

I don't have an FTP site to hand out the password... I do have a website site but the files are large enough you guys would suck up all the monthly bandwidth in a day and my site would go down.

At least one person was able to use the torrents so here's the original links off my personal website and the monova-maybe the first ones were the ones that worked.

http://www.offormerfame.com/After Al...ms.rar.torrent
http://www.offormerfame.com/After All Drums.rar.torrent

http://www.monova.org/details/372409...ums%20rar.html
http://www.monova.org/details/372409...ums%20rar.html

As for deadline, how about next Saturday. 05/30/2010 at midnight. That should give everyone time to do this who is interested.

I've made an online storage account now too. It'll take a while to upload but when it's done you should be able to get they files here:

adrive.com is estimated at least an hour. I think that's for both files but it might just be one.

So check in on the site in 2 hours and they should be there to download!

I was able to get the torrents just fine. I'll stay online today to help get the files spread. Any chance of pushing the deadline to Monday night so we can have the long weekend to work on it? If not, I'll live.

I got the same thing when I loaded the "After All Dry.RPP" file. I don't know if we're actually missing files or not. Omni, do you mind letting us know what the deal is with these tracks? I think there were six that didn't load up.

BTW, awesome that you've given us the shell project to work with. That'll save a *huge* amount of time on the mix.

Cheers,

Well I don't have any vocals in the track when I load the .RPP file. So there's definitely something missing!

edit: I agree, very well done and organized mix. And cool song too (listened in myspace). You're one of these bands pro studio engineers would enjoy to work with.

Yeah we can push till Monday since it's a long weekend. Totally forgot about that.

I'll check on the vocal files tonight. I could have sworn I zipped up everything except the drums in the big file so the vox should have been in there.

Actually, I might have zipped a slightly older reaper file. I was going to do dry and stem vocal tracks but in the end there weren't any effects anyways so I removed the stem files. All the vocals should be:

1) After All Verse Vox
2) After All Chorus Vox
3) After All Chorus Double
4) After All Backup Vox L
5) After All Backup Vox R
6) After All Scream

If you have all those, then the others with the "glue" or "stem" or "render" were deleted and aren't necessary. Let me know if the 6 good tracks are missing though.

Yeah, that's what I was guessing. Easy fix. Thanks for the Monday deadline, too -- it'll help a ton, at least for me.
