You can set preferences up so that they only show when active.

Thanks. I take it there aren't any real benefits in "cleaner" item headers. It's just aesthetics. Like when some people asked Microsoft to bring back the Start button so they would aim at it with their mice.
— You can throw your cursor all the way left all the way down (it's one of the easiest things to do).
— No, I'm too shy to throw my cursor around. I need a button to aim for.
— Well, you can aim at the lowest left pixel of your screen.
— But-ton! But-ton!...
— There's your button, just leave me (MS) alone.
There might have been something like that.

Augerj it is worth noting that the title bar on the item doesn't prevent the wave or MIDI displays from being seen. It is purely for looks, but it does make it easier for me to see things.
The title bar at the top of the item displays icons for muting, effects, and envelopes then the actual title. Those are the functions and icons I selected. All that sits nicely on top of the wave and or MIDI notes.
I came to Reaper from SONAR and really liked the way that program displayed the wave files in the arrange view. Some people would probably hate it, but this method gives me control over it.

emwhy, got it.
I wondered if there's some functionality I'm missing. Apparently not.
The question's answered.

About the best functionality would be if you could grab hold of just the title bar with you mouse to move and manipulate the items. I know all too well that SONAR works that way, not sure about other DAWS. Reaper doesn't allow for that, but there are ways to change the mouse behavior so that you can only manipulate items by clicking on the top half of the item.

@emwhy: Yeah, that would be nice, as an option.
Here's a status update:
The backgrounds are generally a little lighter. I find it works better to sacrifice a bit of darkness in exchange for a bit less contrast - since some elements are hard-coded bright in Reaper.
Midi editor:
Mostly finished, but I've yet to find a way to alter the actual notes themselves when using coloring from track or item, which is what I use.
The MCP is still untouched. I never use it, but I might do a reskin of that too - if only to be able to provide a complete Affinity Designer document for theming.

I'm still amazed about your theme. Especially the toolbars look so much cleaner and well-arranged. Nice work.

Thanks Eliseat!
I changed the IO-buttons a bit. Having all of them vertical made it a bit unclear. This might be better.
The envelope labels inherit their color from the track.
Using the FL graphic for enable/disable works well here, I think.

Thanks!
Not sure when I'll get around to releasing it. Haven't even gotten started on the MCP yet.
I'm experimenting with the envelope bypass button:

Yeah, the FL keys-look is really nice. Looks even better inside FL itself.
The bypass button makes more sense like this to me:
Edit: Parameter modulation and MIDI learn appear when the envelope is expanded. I've never used these shortcut buttons, but maybe I should start.
Edit: Trying to be as graceful as possible when compressing the TCP width.
Edit: New fader caps.

Don't forget to add separators, maybe 2 versions. In other theme I found very usable to have 2 different versions of separators and my mixes are visually easier for my eyes.

Yup - there is already a separator in there from the theme I'm building this one off.
Here's how the MCP looks atm:

Fantastic job on MCP & TCP, thought I'm wondering if the current contrast of medium-light grey et black buttons could be fixed on the Transport / Piano Roll.
I think it'd benefit from being slightly darker to keep everything more coherent, maybe using the same color FL has would help ?

That's what I had at first. We'll see. It would be more "faithful" to FL.

Very cool, wow this is so reminiscent of FL!
Can I please ask for a thin/narrow MCP layout (that still keeps as much info available: fx, sends, controles, fader)?

One thing that FL gets horribly wrong in MCP is that sideways track name. That has to go, or at least have an option to have regular horizontal text.
Pretty great job otherwise!

Yep. I think I'll do at least two widths. One wide like it is now so you can see the names of the plugins, and one thin so you can have lots of tracks on screen.

I'll see if I can make it horizontal for the wide version. Thanks!
Does anyone know what fonts FL uses? I've found a lot of similar fonts, but I haven't found the right ones. I'm looking for the track name-font at the moment.
Edit: Nvm, found the fonts in the FL Studio install folder that I keep on a different machine.
Edit: Hmm, I've got a decision to make here. I've been using FL Studio 12 as reference until now, but I've got FL Studio 20 running for reference now. There is a difference in the colors and contrast. The MCP image above uses the FL 12 colors. I might switch to the FL 20 color scheme.
Edit: Upon further investigation, it seems my reference image had "High Visibility Mode" turned on in the settings. That seems to make the difference. I'm gonna stick to the default with the setting off.

The white version could be a great variant of Atari ST theme, with Atari ST fonts of course. Only audio vu-meters could be allowed to have colors maybe. Would be funny!

Yep - would be an interesting experience for sure.
Inching closer now. The FX/Send-list is bright, but it's true to FL since it also has a bright FX-list.
Here's how the MCP icons look on their own:

Got started on the MCP master track.
MCP in action.
Mocking up a new layout for the TCP. Will need to experiment more with the layout for this.
Edit: Accidentally made a neat effect with the pan knobs in the TCP:

Hi Mordi-
Here's hoping you don't get tired of working on it! I've used FL Studio for years alongside REAPER and your theme might be the best of all possibles for me.

Simply amazing! I so much like an MCP layout and really hope the TCP will look more or less the same from the design standpoint. This has quickly become my all-time favorite!
Can't wait to have the 1080p version released!
