Default midi drum programming with the keyboard

I'm trying to add hits on the fly with my keyboard but to no avail. Anyone out there know why this isn't working for me?

MIDI or computer keyboard?

You may be looking for "Record: MIDI Overdub" mode.

Thanks ErBird, but I have that setting on.

I'm using a MIDI keyboard and you can hear the sounds, it's just that when I play the music and try to add the drum hits physically, they don't write.

I'm going to assume the reason that I am unable to this is because I grabbed that first midi drum event and pulled it for an entire song (5 min). It looks like I will have to make a new event on a separate track and then copy and paste it.
