Area Selection Intro ?
Can anyone make a brief video or document explaining what Area Selection (Razor editing ?) does vs. what time selection does? It's hard to figure this out with new mouse modifiers showing up and not knowing where one thing ends and another begins and what the tasks are that each should be doing. I'd love to test along if I had a clue. Thanks.

You can't develop something if you don't have any idea what things are supposed to do. I realize everything can change but a 10 minute write up would be very helpful.

It provides you nice visual of what you are selecting unlike TS.
Things are extremely simple :
You select PART you want in one go (unlike TS where you additionally need to select items you want to manipulate)
You do stuff with it (copy, drag copy, del, whatever) with visual feedback
What also it can do is:
Select multiple envelopes at once, copy them, delete them etc (not possible with ts), also with TS you need to select the envelope track you want to work with
Make multiple selections
etc
BTW Area selection is not something new... but it is in Reaper now
Gives you more flexibility with editing...
Example with delete (I'm hitting delete on every selection)
Move example:
Drag-Copy example:
It does exactly what you expect when making selections. Default modifiers, non changed. Simple and easy

Thanks for the info Sexan and the great examples. Can you move envelope points in multiple lanes and what is the Razor thing? Thanks!

Razor thingy is a new fancy name for Area Selection (weird one if you ask me). Yes you can move multiple points in multiple lanes
Example with multi selections (you can do this with single one also across all the lanes)

Thanks, sorry I was wondering if you can raise and lower multiple envelope values at once from different lanes.

Yeah that would be great for tweaking harmonies like vocals and sax.

Hmm, I haven't dealt with the reaper version of the area
selection yet. It seems to me, that area-selection
(or now: razor-selection) is the same as marquee-selection,
but also including envelopes?

No, it does not select items just area you want to manipulate with think of it like mini time selection. You can aslo stretch items/envelopes with it

Ahh, so in a coarse overview, it looks like this:
1. time-selection --> select+move/copy items
2. marquee-selection --> move/copy items
3. razor-selection --> move/copy/stretch items+envelopes

Yeah, but it is (should be) much more easier and user friendly with area selection. I do not like to use the new term "razor" since it will bring even more confusion. Even coachz asked what is that.
There are some tool specific actions that are tied to one tool,for example crop project, render selection etc which time selection only

Yeah, I thought it was a whole new and different thing then just regular AS. It conjures up the idea that there's something extra sharp.
