Default Notation bug - insert note in non-continuous view and scroll jump (FIXED)

EDIT: All fixed in v6.43

----------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: In v6.42 the actions "Insert note at nearest X" were fixed. But there are still at least two kinds of actions that are buggy and cause scroll jumps.

STILL NEEDS A FIX after v6.42:
- action "Insert note at mouse cursor"

- actions "move cursor to start/end of selected events". (You need to select a note somewhere after the middle of the system, if it too close to the left of the system, the scroll stays ok. )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

fixed for v6.42:

STEPS:
- create midi item long enough so it can be scrolled up/down in notation editor in non-continuous view
- in notation, place cursor on the third or lower staff from the top
- perform "Insert note at nearest X"

BUG:
- the view is scrolled up unexpectedly

EXPECTED:
- the view stays as is

Sometimes the view of the current input position jumps completely out of screen. I have not been using single-staff editor much up until now and this problem makes this view unusable.

It seems to me that there are just 6 or so users using the notation view and the devs lost interest in it.

6 users on the forum can be but not in real life!
they could fix the big bugs! it is not normal to do nothing.

There are many notation users! But perhaps not many of them often encounter this bug.

Is this really a bug? I kinda assumed that the notation view is simply trying to be helpful by auto-scrolling while notes are being inserted. (I have not yet noticed the input position jumping completely off-screen, but that would indeed be a problem.)

(The devs are working hard on other feature requests and bugs.)

That's good to know!

At the moment I've counted 24 notation bug report threads, most of them by me, still unresolved. I bump them time to time without any real effect. I would have reported some more but as the old ones do not get attention, I don't feel my energy would be well invested.

I don't know the original intent but the final behavior is not well usable and does not seem to be user-tested well. The jumps are just too jarring, plus they are inconsistent - sometimes they happen, sometimes not; sometimes they jump larger amount, sometimes smaller. I do remember some offscreen or partially offscreen jumps too.

For this reason I rather use the continuous view even when editing a single item.

I find the continuous view be pretty reliable but I use only up to 11 staves - the amount to fit my screen so I do not have to scroll up-down.

Pretty reliable except these other bugs:

they do not care. that would have already been fixed if they were interested. The bugs are huge. It is almost unusable.

In 6.41 the "Insert note at nearest X" was fixed. But there are still at least two important actions that cause the scroll to jump. These are:

- action "Insert note at mouse cursor" (related: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread....85#post2442885)
- actions "move cursor to start/end of selected events"

Is this bug fixed to everyone's satisfaction in v6.42?

It is not. The original action was fixed but then I find out two other actions causing this:

- action "Insert note at mouse cursor"
- actions "move cursor to start/end of selected events"

+1

And yet it's close to being one of the best notation editors in a DAW. The problems don't seem difficult to resolve. But every bug and design problem is viewed as user error.

It is unoficial. I made there one FR regarding notation in general. Bump it up over there.

Great, I'll do that and I hope others do as well. It would be nice to know that there's some kind of hope for some improvements to the Notation Editor.

Hopes are low but not non-existent.

they fixed notation bugs in the last few weeks. we can thank the developers for these important corrections. Because they surely have other more important things to do. Since these fixes, the notation editor has become really usable. it's nice. Thank you

I haven't seen any fixes posted. Can you point me to what has been done on the Notation Editor?
