Default Musicians wanted for Bowie cover

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rjyym6g1ac...track.wav?dl=0

You familiar with The Man Who Sold The World? I love the original from 1970, and also the live version from BBC, both on Youtube. If you can't find them, let me know and I'll post the links.

I put together a simple guide track with midi and vsts. The key is D minor, and the intro lick starts on the dominant 7 chord, 115 bpm. It's pretty straightforward. I didn't bother to program the whole bass track (only in the chorus, which is essential for the song) because I most probably couldn't do it justice, or it would take days.

So the crew would be:
Drums
Bass
Keys
Acoustic guitar
Electric guitar
Guiro
Backing vocals
Mixing
Mastering

I want to do the lead vocal myself.

How about it? Anybody interested with time on their hands?

Question is how we do this practically. I could upload the track/project with midi only, no instruments, and you could use your own vsts (the drums are SSD 5 free, as is the drum midi) and/or I could do a project with bounced audio tracks, maybe in a small lossy format to reduce download time. Suggestions?

You're welcome. Not a remake (he's done that himself) but something close to the live BBC version. He had a great, funky band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM0e...Q&pbjreload=10

Pretty close to the original, with a modern funkier approach.

Excellent. Maybe some vocals too? There's this cluster of voices in the song's finale, I'd like to do the same thing.

Are any of you guys familiar with NINJAM? Ever used it? Maybe that's an option.

Still in need of drums, bass, and keys... Jeff, what's your instrument (except the cowbell?)

if there are e.g. several guitar contributions, then Jörgen has more to chose from, so just do it

Sure thing. I will upload a project folder with the midi tracks (but no vsts) during the day. Should be no problems for you to add your own stuff and make some sounds. The drums are SSD 5 mapped, it should be possible to convert it to other formats if needed, I have never done it so I have to check out a thing or two regarding that.

Here's the midi project, Reaper 6.0.5. The drum mapping converting etc may be easier to do on your part, I assume you have some kind of drum vst. You can do it manually of course. (I'm not too happy with the drums, but I wanted a "lively" player and SSD 5 were the closest I could get.)

Let me know if something doesn't work.

This sounds like a fun project.
I banged together a possible drum part, even though it may not be what you're after.

OK. Great. Glad you like. I tried for something a little "funkier" than what's used in the Bowie original.
I can add some fills as well as "place-holder" hits to act as a metronome during the periods when there are no actual drums playing.

I've cleaned up that drum MIDI file to make sure that it follows General MIDI mapping. All "placeholder metronome" bits have been mapped to the snare side stick.

Good, it will give us more options. I'll try it out on different kits.

Give it a shot. I'm warming up my vocal cords, which may take a while.

Audio with a click. It's a bit tricky since he adds/cuts (depending on how you see it) two beats in a couple of places. Hope this works.

Acoustic drums and guitar. I've added some string pads and noise and such.

Missing: Bass and electric guitar. And vocals.

My acoustic sounds a few milliseconds late throughout, but that could be me being self-critical. Love the drums. Is that Hardplay's track? Good drummer whoever.

I could try moving the guitar a tiny bit. The drummer is Hardplay's son. The handclaps are just the right thing.

yes i noticed that too, maybe you should retry with the drums in place.
I also noticed a couple of lags on the keyboard with the click track.

I think a bit of nudging on either would be much quicker.

Your son's really good, and the claps added an extra 'Bowie touch'.
And thanks for the safe wish, I hope the same for you and the fam.

Update: I put on the vocals. Electric guitar is worked on as we speak. Still miss keyboards and bass.

The keyboards I've programmed may suffice, idk.

Ivan is occupied with other matters atm, so a bass player is welcome to join the band.

Sam, I tried some different settings on your guitar, and nudging the file 19 ms sounds good to my ears. What do you think?
