Default Playback Cursor latency (starts after sound) Help!

I started using Reaper for Sound Desing/Game Audio about a week ago. The basic setup, sound library import and first few tests went well. But today, I encounterd something that makes editing sounds a pain.

When I press Playback, the Yellow cursor flashes, disapeares for almost a second and then starts normaly while the audio just starts right away as it should. This makes a massive delay between the sound i'm earing and the visual feedback. (In the media explorer, the audio and playback cursor are perfeclty synched. the issue appeares only on the main workspace)

Couldn't find anything about this online. I suspect a Buffering issue, but after speding a lot of time trying different optimal performance configurations and just messing with the buffer, playback and audio device(Asio) options, nothing changes. I have no clue where this problem could come from.

Here are my specs, in case it can help:

CPU: i7 4770 3.4 GHz Quad-Core
RAM: 16 GBs
Audio Interface: Presonus Studio 24c

Anyone who had the same problem and found a fix?

Thank you!

My Buffer size is at 512(both in my device settings and my ASIO4ALL settings. If a drop it lower, it crackels and pops. Is it my computer who is not powerfull enough or is there something else that can cause this?

Do you have any plugin in the monitor fx?

Any really high latency plugins in the project?

You said you're using ASIO4all....why aren't you using Presonus ASIO driver?

Can you make a screencap of your prefs/audio settings and another of the top right corner of reaper project window where it lists the sample rate and buffer size.

Sure! here it is:

By the way, I have switched form a Studio 24c to an iostation 24c just so nobody thinks I have picked the wrong driver.

I was not completely sure about what settings to include. If you need more, let me know.

Your output range is set very oddly...you have no first output?

Usually first out is 1 and last is 2 (on a 2 channel interface)

Not sure that's going to be the issue though.

Are you 100% sure there's no plugs in Monitor FX. You previously replied it was doing it in a blank project when I asked but for clarity a blank project can still have monitor fx as they are global. (EDIT....I don't think you do as the button would probably show in the last screencap)

Yhea, for the output, it was setted like that by default. just chaged it.

I can comfirm you I have no monitoring FX.

(Edit, just tried rendering a sound desing project synced with a video. Everything is delayed in the render even if it is synced in reaper)

The problem was solved. Seems like my computer can only run the portable install of reaper without this kind of issue.

Thank you very much for your help!

That suggests something that got set in your reaper.ini is doing it.

Though if you only started on it a week back that seems unlikely.

But good that you at least found a way round it.
