Ouch, .flac. Really slowing Reaper down! Having to convert to .wav, there's no way I can work with this lag. Hopefully it goes smoothly replacing the .wav with .flac source later using Xenakios' tool

Just freeze the tracks before you add any inserts, then unfreeze before you save it to send to Dave (I did a "save as..." once I'd finished mixing, then unfreezed the tracks).

I rushed through it in about 4 or 5 hours, with a sleep in-between. I'm in the middle of a contract so I couldn't spend too much time on it, so I kinda treated it like a live session rather than getting into time or pitch correction and getting into editing minutiae.

It's only the second mix I've done in my new place. I've gone from bass nodes to high frequency reflections, I don't know which way is up in aural terms!

About the same here, couple hours last night, couple this evening. It's only about the third mix I've done at the new place and mixing mixes that I didn't record here is helping out as to figuring this room out - I'm not as comfortable as the old place yet. I already have my own shit list of things I could/would/should change, time is time, too late now.

I converted to .wav and will convert back before submitting. I can't do freezing because I've been splitting the track items all over the place.

I use freeze like a batch converter quite often. Just select all, unlock the freeze files, and edit away. Just means that you can't unfreeze, but you can freeze and unlock again.

I sent mine last night. I don't see an NDR for my email so it should have gotten there.

So that's what it was. Most of the time there wasn't much of an issue with it for me, but when I went to group edit all my drum tracks at once, I did run into issues with that. I couldn't figure out why exactly, but I guess that would make sense.

I've learned some things from this:

1. I prefer my normal workflow. But still had a good time.
2. I prefer my normal sound... which is REALLY interesting. I'm hoping to learn more from others, if you achieve the "sound in my head" better than I did with the stock plugins.
3. Switching from this contest to a hip-hop/rap client is hilarious, but not too bad of a thing really. I surprised myself.
4. Since this is a contest for educational purposes (in my mind), I didn't take the time to tune, do much automation or really fine tune very many things. I'd say that there's still work that could be done. That almost makes my brain melt a bit though... maybe if I had more free time to devote to the last few percent. Maybe I'm still tired. IDK.

Thanks for doing this. I appreciate all the time everyone put into this. I know that it's a bit of a task for Dave! Thanks!

I didn't do as much as I could have either, especially as far as tuning is concerned, but a bit in automation as well. I did however want to see what kind of mix I could get out of the reaper plugs and someone else's stems, to try and learn as much as I could, so I put some decent effort into it. I think it will be common that entrants didn't do tuning and fixing timing and all that, because especially with only reaper tools, that would be significant amount of extra work.

Around when would the voting period normally begin?

Ok guys, I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I have to be quite honest because there are a few things that are driving me crazy.

Please, read the instructions on the 1st page, I don't want to email each one of you everytime to ask for missing effects, to tell you not to glue files and to not send me any source file.

Until now, I've been very patient and tried to fix everything I could without bothering anyone, but I think that from February I'll make some changes regarding the rules.

Sorry for the outburst but I felt like I needed to be clear with you all. I don't like feeling like an angry boss, so please make my life easier and follow the instructions

I usually test with a portable version of Reaper but I skipped this time. I hopefully only had two files which I included which was one impulse file and one JS. Everything else should be stock but if I missed one let me know or I will install and test with a portable later this evening.

Other than a couple of IRs and my track icons, which I included, I don't think I used any JS plugs that aren't part of the install.

I ended up only really using basic plugins. Mostly because I don't know any of the reaper plugins, or JS effects or what have you, and didn't feel like going through them all to see what they are like.

I did us Master limiter on my master track, which is a JS plug, but I think that's a stock one everybody has, because I never downloaded any extras like that I don't think.

So, I don't think I had any extra files to attach, but let me know if that was wrong.

Dave,
Effect has been emailed. Sorry about that!
I must have tried that out in the past. Clearly it didn't "win" against other third party plugins, because I didn't remember it not being a standard plugin.

Finally received the NDR. Looks like Gmail caps attachments at 25MB? My server allows 150 so it tried for a couple days per protocol then NDR'd me. No worries, just adding as to why it was probably kicked back.

Hey Flaneurette, don't give up, try "google my drive", it's free and no hassle, not for me anyway.

https://www.google.com/drive/

I clicked on your link and there were two, three or more download links, and I didn't have a clue which was yours, or even if yours was there amongst them.
